Dave Ritchie (gridiron Football)
David F. Ritchie (September 3, 1938 – March 9, 2024) was an American gridiron football coach in college football, the Canadian Football League (CFL), the Italian Football League (IFL), and the Swiss National League. He is best known for his time as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach from 1999 to 2004. He was a three-time Grey Cup champion, having won in 1990, 1994, and 2006 and was named the CFL's Coach of the Year in 2001. He won 108 regular season games as a head coach in the CFL which is the seventh highest win total by a head coach in the league's history. Early life and college career Ritchie was born on September 3, 1938, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. His father, also named Dave Ritchie, was one of the best running backs in the history of New Bedford High School and the younger Ritchie hoped to follow in his footsteps. BC Lions
The BC Lions are a professional Canadian football team based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Lions compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and play their home games at BC Place. The Lions played their first season in 1954, and have played every season since, making them the oldest professional sports franchise in British Columbia. 2004 CFL Season
The 2004 CFL season is considered to be the 51st season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 47th Canadian Football League season. Nationalliga A (American Football)
The Nationalliga A is the highest league level of American football in Switzerland and was formed in 1982. The first Swiss Bowl championship was played in 1986. Below the ''Nationalliga A'' sits the ''Nationalliga B'', also made up of six teams. The champion of the B division has the opportunity to earn promotion to the top division through a relegation/promotion match. There is also a National League C. The league season runs from late March to the end of June, followed by the play-offs and the Swiss Bowl which is held in July. Italian Football League (IFL) is the top level American football league in Italy established in 1980. History In the 1970's teams formed and played in Italy. In 1980 the first official American football league in Italy was established and crowned a champion. The Italian league (Series A) in the early 1980's was one of the first leagues in Europe to sign professional import players and coaches from the USA.
