David Hadfield (born 1957 in Galt, Ontario (now Cambridge, Ontario is a Canadian singer/songwriter, author, wilderness adventurer, historic aircraft pilot, and classic-boat sailor. He shares writing credits on the album ''Songs From a Tin Can'', recorded by his brother Commander Chris Hadfield, which is the first album of music recorded off the planet Earth. Music Hadfield is known for his wilderness songs. These are largely story-songs, many focusing on historical themes. Some are humorous or satiric (eg."Riley’s Bait", "Victor’s Cabin"). In 2012, Hadfield's song "Jewel in the Night", a "space-carol" was adapted and recorded by his brother Chris Hadfield while on board the International Space Station] and released on Christmas Eve. This was the first of Chris’ recordings from Space, and is the first song deliberately recorded and distributed from space for the purposes of an album. Galt, Ontario
Galt is a community in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario on the Grand River (Ontario), Grand River. Prior to 1973, it was an independent city, incorporated in 1915, but amalgamation with the village of Hespeler, Ontario, Hespeler, the town of Preston, Ontario, Preston and the village of Blair formed the new municipality of Cambridge. Being the largest constituent community in the city, it is commonly seen as the downtown core of Cambridge. The first mayor of Cambridge was Claudette Millar. There was considerable resistance among the local population to this "shotgun marriage" arranged by the provincial government and a healthy sense of rivalry had always governed relations among the three communities. Even today, many residents identify Galt, Preston, and Hespeler as still being cities or towns in their own right.
