Datum (magazine)
''Datum'' is an Austrian news magazine, magazine of reportage, political and cultural features and analysis, essays and criticism. It is published and edited in Vienna. Started in 2004, the magazine is now published ten times annually. Although its stories focus on the political and cultural life of Austria, Datum has a significant audience outside of the country. Throughout the German language, German-language-countries it is well known for its journalism on political, cultural and social issues, its illustrations, its rigorous fact checking and copyediting and its cosmopolitan sophistication. Editor-in-chief is Elisalex Henckel Donnersmarck. History ''Datum'' debuted in March 2004. It was founded by author and journalist Klaus Stimeder (aka JM Stim) and Hannes Weyringer, a businessman and financial consultant. A news magazine is a typed, printed, and published magazine, radio, or television program, usually published weekly, consisting of articles about current events. News magazines generally discuss stories in greater depth than newspapers or newscasts do, and aim to give the consumer an understanding of the important events beyond the basic facts. Ursula Plassnik
Ursula Plassnik (; born 23 May 1956) is an Austrian diplomat and politician. She was Foreign Minister of Austria between October 2004 and December 2008. She has served as the Austrian ambassador to Switzerland from 2016 to 2021. Early life and career Plassnik is from the Austrian state of Carinthia and grew up in a social democratic family. She was born in Klagenfurt on 23 May 1956. From 1971 to 1972 she was an exchange student at the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia, United States. She received a law degree from the University of Vienna in 1978 and a postgraduate Certificate of Advanced European Studies (equivalent to a master's degree) from the College of Europe in Bruges, where she studied 1979–1980 (Salvador de Madariaga promotion). Günter Brus
Günter Brus (27 September 1938 – 10 February 2024) was an Austrian painter, performance artist, graphic artist, experimental filmmaker, and writer. Biography Brus grew up in Mureck, attended the Kunstgewerbeschule Graz and went to Vienna in 1956, where he studied painting and met his lifelong friend Alfons Schilling. In fall of 1960, influenced by German expressionism, Edvard Munch, Vincent van Gogh, abstract expressionism, and artists such as Emilio Vedova, he began to create artwork that was not confined to visual media. His companion Otto Muehl, who met him at the time, said of his work: “The color sometimes exploded like a bomb when it hit the picture. Franz Schuh (writer)
Franz Schuh (born 15 March 1947) is an Austrian novelist, literary critic and, above all, essayist in the tradition of Karl Kraus (writer), Karl Kraus and Alfred Polgar. Schuh was born, and lives, in Vienna, where, just like his predecessors, he prefers to write in one of the traditional Viennese café, coffeehouses. Life Franz Schuh studied philosophy, history and German studies in Vienna and graduated with his doctorate. 1976-80 he was Secretary General of the Grazer Autorenversammlung, then editor of "Wespennest" (wasp nest) and head of the essayist and literary program of the publisher Deuticke. Andreas Khol
Andreas Khol (born 14 July 1941) is an Austrian politician of the centre-conservative Austrian People's Party, President of the National Council from 2002 to 2006. Andreas Khol was born in Bergen auf Rügen, Germany, and raised in the town of Sterzing in South Tyrol, Italy. Lothar Höbelt
Lothar Höbelt (born 30 June 1956 in Vienna) is an Austrian historian and who was a professor of Modern History at the University of Vienna, known for his right-wing and nationalist viewpoints. His research areas are political and constitutional history of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the Thirty Years' War. He also lectures at the Theresian Military Academy. He studied history at the University of Vienna from 1974 to 1981, earning his doctorate ''Sub auspiciis Praesidentis'' (Promotion under the auspices of the President, the highest level of academic achievement in Austria). Toni Innauer
Anton Innauer (born 1 April 1958) is an Austrian former ski jumper. Career His best-known success was at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, where he won a gold medal in the individual normal hill event. Innauer also won a silver medal in the individual large hill at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and the ski jumping event at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1975. He also won the silver medal at the Ski flying World Championships in Vikersund in 1977. On 5 March 1976, he set the ski jumping world record distance at 174 metres (571 ft). Barbara Prammer
Barbara Prammer (née Thaller; 11 January 1954 – 2 August 2014) was an Austrian politician and member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). In 2006 she was the first woman to become President of the National Council of Austria, an office she held until her death. Biography Prammer was born in the Upper Austrian market town of Ottnang am Hausruck, where she began her career as a local government official. Markus Kupferblum (born 12 June 1964) is an Austrian theatre and opera director, playwright and clown. He founded the first Austrian Fringe Opera Company, Totales Theater, in Vienna and is an expert on ''commedia dell'arte'' and mask theatre. Peter Noever (born 1941, Innsbruck) is an Austrian designer and curator-at-large of art, architecture and media. From 1986 to 2011, he was the artistic director and chief executive officer of the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts and Contemporary Art (MAK) in Vienna. Alfred Gusenbauer (; born 8 February 1960) is an Austrian politician who until 2008 spent his entire professional life as an employee of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) or as a parliamentary representative.
