Dasan Machineries K16
The Dasan Machineries K16 is a 5.56×45mm NATO selective fire assault rifle based on DSAR15PC, which is a modified CQB variant of DSAR15P designed and manufactured by Dasan Machineries. History The Republic of Korea Armed Forces classifies K16 as submachine gun for same reason as K1A while its general characteristic is closer to assault rifle or carbine. K16 will undergo 3 years of development and 1 year of feasibility study in between 2020 and 2024, and start mass-producing by 2024. The DSAR-15PC was selected on June 23, 2020 to replace Daewoo Precision Industries K1, K1A carbine in service in the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command after competing against S&T Motiv STC-16. Selective Fire
Selective fire is the capability of a weapon to be adjusted to fire in semi-automatic, fully automatic, and/or burst mode. The modes are chosen by means of a selector switch, which varies depending on the weapon's design. Some selective-fire weapons have burst fire mechanisms to limit the maximum number of shots fired automatically in this mode. The most common limits are two or three rounds per trigger pull. Fully automatic fire refers to the ability for a weapon to fire continuously until either the feeding mechanism is emptied or the trigger is released. Daewoo Precision Industries K1
The Daewoo Precision Industries K1/K1A is a South Korean selective-fire assault rifle developed by Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and manufactured by Daewoo Precision Industries (now S&T Motiv) and Dasan Machineries (since 2016). It entered service in the Republic of Korea Armed Forces in 1981. Although the K1 uses .223 Remington, it is classified as a submachine gun by the South Korean military and the manufacturer, because the K1 was intended to replace the M3 submachine gun. Development In 1976, the ROKA Special Warfare Command requested a new weapon to replace the old M3 submachine gun. An AR-15-style rifle is any lightweight semi-automatic rifle based on the Colt AR-15 design. The original ArmaLite AR-15 is a scaled-down derivative of Eugene Stoner's ArmaLite AR-10 design. The then Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation division ArmaLite sold the patent and trademarks to Colt's Manufacturing Company in 1959.
