Darwin Rocksitters Club
The Darwin Rocksitters Club was an Australian rocksitting club. Formed in Darwin in the Northern Territory in 1974 by a group of journalists at East Point, its members practised rocksitting, the practice of sitting on rocks and drinking beer for as long as possible. The group were awarded an official world record for longest rocksit in October 1978 and then again in 1980, shortly after which rocksitting declined due to the enforcement of public drinking laws. Uluru
Uluru (; ), also known as Ayers Rock ( ) and officially gazetted as UluruAyers Rock, is a large sandstone monolith. Dawn Lawrie
Alline Dawn Lawrie (born 3 November 1938) is an Australian former politician. She was the independent member for Nightcliff in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1974 to 1983; in the First Assembly, she and fellow independent Ron Withnall were the sole non-Country Liberal Party members. Early life Lawrie was born in Melbourne in 1938. She moved to Alice Springs in the 1950s. She then settled in Darwin in 1960, where she worked as a public servant. Darwin Beer Can Regatta
The Darwin Beer Can Regatta is a festival event which has been held annually since 1974 in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia at Mindil Beach. The inaugural event had 63 entries and was attended by about 22,000 people which was about half of Darwin's population at the time. Format Participants create boats using empty beer cans, soft drink cans, soft drink bottle and milk cartons. Up to 30,000 cans have been used for a single boat. The vessels are not tested for seaworthiness, prior to water events, and those that fall apart are part of the day's entertainment.
