Darryl Pounds
Darryl Lamont Pounds (born July 21, 1972) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins and the Denver Broncos. He played college football for the Nicholls State Colonels where he was named second-team Associated Press All-American in 1991 and first-team Associated Press All-American in 1994. He was selected in the third round of the 1995 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins. Pounds played high school football at South Pike High School in Magnolia, Mississippi. A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover Wide receiver, receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such Play from scrimmage, offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. College Football All-America Team
The College Football All-America Team is an honor given annually to the best college football players in the United States at their respective positions. 1999 Washington Redskins Season
The Washington Redskins season was the franchise's 68th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 63rd in Washington, D.C. The team improved on their 6–10 record from 1998 to go 10–6. They succeeded to the extent of reaching their first postseason since 1992 and beating the Detroit Lions in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, their most recent home playoff victory. Their season would end after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a single point in the divisional playoff round. The season would also be the first season for new team owner Daniel Snyder, who purchased the team prior to the start of the season from Jack Kent Cooke's estate. The sale was finalized by the Cooke family on July 13, 1999. It would be the fourth and final season that the Redskins qualified for the playoffs in the 1990s and for the next five seasons, the team fell out of contention. The 1999 NFL season was the 80th regular season (NFL), regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The Cleveland Browns returned to the field for the first time since the 1995 NFL season, 1995 season, while the Tennessee Oilers changed their name to "Tennessee Titans", with the league retiring the name "Oilers". The team failed to improve on their 8–7–1 and finished fourth in the NFC East, with a record of 6–10 and missed the NFL playoffs for the sixth consecutive year. They started the season 0–7, before going 6–3 after their bye week. After ranking 28th out of 30 NFL teams in defense against the run in 1997, the Redskins had tried to revamp their interior defensive line during the off-season. The 1998 NFL season was the 79th regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The season culminated with Super Bowl XXXIII, with the Denver Broncos defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34–19 at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. The Broncos had won their first thirteen games, the best start since the undefeated 1972 Dolphins, and were tipped by some to have a realistic chance at winning all nineteen games. The Washington Redskins season was the franchise's 66th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 62nd in Washington, D.C. The team failed to improve on their 9–7 record from 1996 and finished 8–7–1, knocking them out of playoff contention for the fifth straight year. This was the Redskins' first season playing in their new stadium, Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, that would be later called FedExField. In an infamous game with the New York Giants on November 23, 1997, quarterback Gus Frerotte sprained his neck by ramming his head into a padded cement wall during a touchdown celebration and missed the rest of the game. 1997 NFL Season
The 1997 NFL season was the 78th regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The Oilers relocated from Houston, Texas to Nashville, Tennessee. The newly renamed Tennessee Oilers played their home games during this season at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee while construction of a new stadium in Nashville started. Houston would rejoin the NFL with the expansion Texans in 2002. This would be the only season between 1989 and 2002 in which a game ended in a tie, and the last season where two occurred in the same season until 2016. The 1996 season was the Washington Redskins' 65th in the National Football League, and their 61st since the franchise moved to Washington, D.C. It was their last season playing at RFK Stadium, where they had played since 1961. They began the season aiming to improve on their 6–10 record from the year before, but after winning seven of their first eight games, they managed just two victories in the second half of the season and finished with a 9–7 record. The 1995 NFL season was the 76th regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The league expanded to 30 teams with the addition of the Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
