Dark Match (film)
''Dark Match'' is a 2024 Canadian slasher film written and directed by Lowell Dean, starring Ayisha Issa, Steven Ogg, Sara Canning, and Chris Jericho. Set in the late 1980s, the film follows SAW, an independent wrestling promotion where Nicky, known as Miss Behave, ignites a bitter rivalry with the popular Kate the Great. Meanwhile, aging wrestler and manager Joe Lean becomes involved in a dangerous one-night event staged in a remote village by a promoter working with cultists led by The Prophet, a former wrestler with a troubled past. ''Dark Match'' premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2024 and was released theatrically on January 31, 2025. The film received mixed reviews from critics. Lowell Dean is a Canadian filmmaker. He has directed six feature films: the zombie thriller ''13 Eerie'' (2013), the horror comedy ''WolfCop'' (2014), the sequel ''Another WolfCop'' (2017), the post-apocalypse action film ''SuperGrid (film), SuperGrid'' (2018), the wrestling-horror ''Dark Match (film), Dark Match'' (2024) and the post-apocalyptic love story ''Die Alone'' (2024). Ayisha Issa
Ayisha Issa (born 18 March 1984) is a Canadian actress and martial arts practitioner. She has played a number of roles in both English- and French-language television series and films, such as ''Dark Matter'', ''Unité 9'', and '' Brick Mansions''. She is a practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu who won at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Championships twice, once in 2010 as a white belt, and again in 2014 as a blue belt; she currently holds the rank of brown belt and previously owned a dojo in Toronto.
