Dark Champions
''Dark Champions'' is an action-adventure role-playing game published by Hero Games in 2004 that uses the 5th edition of the Hero System. Description The emphasis in this game is on modern action adventures in the fields of espionage, military and police work. The book includes advice on character creation; as a timesaver, players can opt to use one of several pre-generated character packages. The game focuses on people with ordinary abilities, but there is an option to create more cinematic characters with "super skills", which is more fully explored in the supplement ''Dark Champions: The Animated Series'' (2005). Rules cover modern combat, firearms, equipment, as well as designing weapons and equipment. There is also information about forensic science, organized crime and terrorism. Steve Long (game Designer)
Steven S. Long is a role-playing game author and one of the owners of Hero Games. Career Long started playing Champions in 1982. He began writing for the game ten years later, starting with articles in the Hero Games house magazine, ''Adventurers Club''. He began working in the RPG industry in 1992 as a freelancer for Hero Games. Long authored the ''Champions'' subgenre sourcebook ''Dark Champions'' in 1993, along with several more ''Champions'' supplements to support it. Long wrote '' The Ultimate Martial Artist'' (1994) and ''The Ultimate Mentalist'' (1996) as the first two supplements in a line devised by Steve Peterson as sourcebooks compatible with all of the ''Hero System'' genres. Hero Games (''DOJ, Inc dba Hero Games'') is the publisher of the Hero System, a generic roleplaying rules set that can be used to simulate many different genres, and was the co-developer of the '' Fuzion'' system. History In 1981, George MacDonald and Steve Peterson, from San Mateo, California, printed 1,000 copies of a 64-page rulebook for '' Champions'', their super-hero role-playing game, to take to a Bay Area gaming convention. Adventure Film
The adventure film is a broad genre of film. Some early genre studies found it no different than the Western film or argued that adventure could encompass all Hollywood genres. Commonality was found among historians Brian Taves and Ian Cameron in that the genre required a setting that was both remote in time and space to the film audience and that it contained a positive hero who tries to make right in their world. Some critics such as Taves limit the genre to naturalistic settings, while Yvonne Tasker found that would limit films such as '' Raiders of the Lost Ark'' (1981) from the genre. Tasker found that most films in the genre featured narratives located within a fantasy world of exoticized setting, which are often driven by quests for characters seeking mythical objects or treasure hunting. ENnie Awards
The ENNIE Awards (previously stylized as ENnie Awards) are awards for role-playing game (RPG) products (including game-related accessories, publications, and art) and their creators. The awards were created in 2001 by Russ Morrissey of EN World in partnership with Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D Third Edition News. The ceremony has been hosted at Gen Con in Indianapolis since 2002. Since 2018, EN World is no longer associated with the awards. The ENNIES comprise two rounds. In the first round, publishers submit their products for nomination. Entries are judged by five democratically elected judges. The nominated products are voted on by the public in the second round.
