Dargwa People
Dargins or Dargwa (, ''darganti'') are a Northeast Caucasian native ethnic group originating in the North Caucasus, and who make up the second largest ethnic group in the North Caucasian republic of Dagestan. They speak the various Dargin languages. According to the 2021 Census, Dargins make up 16.6% of the population of Dagestan, with 521,381 people. They are concentrated in the Kaytagsky District, Dakhadayevsky District, Levashinsky District, Akushinsky District and Sergokalinsky Districts. The Dargins have lived in their present-day location for many centuries. They formed the state of Kaitag in the Middle Ages and Renaissance until Russian conquest. Today, the Dargins are one of the most numerous ethnic groups in Dagestan (an amalgamation of many of the historical peoples in the region), the second most numerous after Avars. Alan Dargin
Alan Dargin (13 July 196724 February 2008) was an indigenous Australian musician and songwriter known for being a didgeridoo player. He grew up in Wee Waa and started learning the instrument at age five from his grandfather and other Wiradjuri elders. His signature instrument was over a hundred years old and was made from a blood wood eucalypt. He received his secondary education at St Pius X High School, Newcastle. Dargin worked as a busker on the streets of Sydney. He appeared with various symphony orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall; as well as in the United States, Japan, and Europe. In 1983 Dargin appeared in a five-part ABC-TV miniseries, ''Chase Through the Night'', alongside Nicole Kidman. He had the role of Bruce in the feature film, '' The Fringe Dwellers'' (1986), and a cameo appearance in '' The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert'' (1994), as an unnamed cross-dresser. Dargwa Language
Dargwa (, ''dargan mez'') is a Northeast Caucasian languages, Northeast Caucasian language spoken by the Dargins, Dargin people in the Russian republic Dagestan. This article discusses the literary dialect of the dialect continuum constituting the Dargin languages. It is based on the Aqusha dialect, Aqusha and Urakhi dialect, Urakhi dialects of Northern Dargin. Classification Dargwa is part of a Northeast Caucasian dialect continuum, the Dargin languages. The other languages in this dialect continuum (such as Kaitag language, Kajtak, Kubachi language, Kubachi, Itsari language, Itsari, and Chirag language, Chirag) are often considered variants of Dargwa, but also sometimes considered separate languages by certain scholars. Korjakov (2012) concludes that Southwestern Dargwa is closer to Kajtak than it is to North-Central Dargwa. Edward Vincent Dargin
Edward Vincent Dargin (April 25, 1898 – April 20, 1981) was an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York from 1953 to 1973. Biography Early life Edward Dargin was born on April 25, 1898, in New York City, one of four children. He graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx in 1919, and completed his theological studies at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, New York. He earned a Doctor of Canon Law degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Priesthood Dargin was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of New York by Cardinal Patrick Hayes in New York City on September 23, 1922. He served for some time as assistant chancellor of the Archdiocese of New York, and was assigned as a curate at Cold Spring in 1929.
