Dar Tama
Dar Tama () is one of three departments in Wadi Fira, a region of Chad. Its capital is Gueréda, northeast of Abéché. The population consists primarily of non-Arab tribes. Dar Tama is the historical home of the Tama, who make up the majority of the population. The Zaghawa make up a significant minority and migrated during the Sahelian drought in the 1980s. Both are non-Arab tribes. Former Chadian president Idriss Déby is from the Zaghawa tribe. Wadi Fira
Wadi Fira () is one of the 23 provinces of Chad. Its capital city, capital is the town of Biltine, Chad, Biltine. The province corresponds with the former prefectures of Chad, prefecture of Biltine Prefecture, Biltine. Geography The province borders Borkou Region, Ennedi-Ouest Region and Ennedi-Est Region to the north, Sudan to the east, Ouaddaï Region to the south, and Batha Region to the west. The terrain is savannah merging into the Sahara Desert in the north, and rising to the east. Settlements Biltine, Chad, Biltine is the province's capital; other major settlements include Guéréda, Iriba and Matadjana. Abéché
Abéché (, ''Absha'') is a city in Chad and the capital of the Ouaddaï Region. It is one of the List of cities in Chad, largest cities in the country and has within it the remnants of the ancient capital, including palaces, mosques, and the tombs of former sultans. History The city of Abéché was made Capital (political), capital of the Wadai Sultanate in the 1890s, after the wells at Ouara, the former capital, had dried out. In 1909, French troops invaded the Kingdom and established a garrison in Abéché. France took power, forcing the sultan to renounce his throne. At that time, Abéché was the largest city in Chad with 28,000 people, but major epidemics reduced the population to 6,000 in 1919. In 1935, the sultanate was restored by orders of the French government, and Muhammed Ouarada, heir to the throne after his father became king. Tama People
Tama are a non-Arab, African ethnic group of people who live in eastern Chad and western Sudan. They speak Tama, a Nilo-Saharan language. The population is 200,000–300,000 people and they practice Islam. Many Tama are subsistence farmers who live in permanent settlements and some raise livestock. In the civil war in Chad the Tama were involved in ethnic conflicts with the Zaghawa tribe. Zaghawa People
The Zaghawa people, also called Beri or Zakhawa, are an ethnic group primarily residing in southwestern Libya, northeastern Chad, and western Sudan, including Darfur. Zaghawas speak the Zaghawa language, which is an eastern Saharan language. They are pastoralists, and a breed of sheep that they herd is called Zaghawa by the Arabs. They are nomadic and obtain much of their livelihood through herding cattle, camels and sheep and harvesting wild grains. It has been estimated that there are 384,150 people who belong to the Zaghawa ethnicity. Names The royal history of the Kanem–Bornu Empire, the '' Girgam'', refers to the Zaghawa people as the Duguwa. Idriss Déby Itno ( '; 18 June 1952 – 20 April 2021) was a Chadian politician and military officer who was the sixth List of heads of state of Chad, president of Chad from 1991 until his death in 2021 during the 2021 Northern Chad offensive, Northern Chad offensive.
