Danys Báez
Danys Báez González (; ; born September 10, 1977) is a Cuban- American former professional baseball pitcher. Báez played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, and Philadelphia Phillies. Professional career Cleveland Indians Báez was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1999. In his second season, he played for both the Indians and the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. In his debut, he went a scoreless inning against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Over the rest of the year, he went 5–3 with a 2.91 ERA. In 2002, Báez was moved into the starting rotation of the Indians. He won his first start on April 5 of that year facing the Detroit Tigers. In 26 starts, he went 9–10 with a 4.44 ERA. He was given the role of closer in August, where he finished off the season. Baseball At The 1999 Pan American Games
Baseball at the 1999 Pan American Games was held between July 25 and August 2 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. A total of nine teams competed: Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and the United States. The primary venue for this competition was CanWest Global Park, while Stonewall Quarry Park in Stonewall, Manitoba, was used as a secondary venue. Cuba entered the competition as the seven-time defending champions, having won each gold medal dating back to 1971. They successfully defended their title, with the United States finishing second. The 1999 games were the first time professional baseball players were allowed to participate in the Pan American Games, and the top two teams qualified for the 2000 Summer Olympics. In baseball, a setup man (or set-up man, also sometimes referred to as a setup pitcher or setup reliever) is a relief pitcher who regularly pitches before the closer. They commonly pitch the eighth inning, with the closer pitching the ninth. As closers were reduced to one-inning specialists, setup men became more prominent. Setup pitchers often come into the game with the team losing or the game tied. They are usually the second best relief pitcher on a team, behind the closer.
