77th Tony Awards
The 77th Tony Awards will be held on June 16, 2024, to recognize achievement in Broadway productions during the 2023–24 season. The ceremony will be held at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City, and air on CBS. Ariana DeBose will host for the third year in a row. Eligibility The Tony Awards eligibility dates for the 2023-2024 Broadway season are April 28, 2023, through April 25, 2024. Productions must meet all other eligibility requirements as set forth by the American Theatre Wing and the Broadway League. There are 41 legitimate Broadway-eligible theaters in which a production must be performed in to attain eligibility for award consideration. Julie Taymor
Julie Taymor (born December 15, 1952) is an American director and writer of theater, opera and film. Her stage adaptation of '' The Lion King'' debuted in 1997, and received eleven Tony Award nominations, with Taymor receiving Tony Awards for Best Director and Costume Designer. Her film '' Frida'', about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, was nominated for five Academy Awards, including a Best Original Song nomination for Taymor's composition "Burn It Blue". She also directed the jukebox musical '' Across the Universe''. Early life Taymor was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Elizabeth (née Bernstein), a political science professor and Democratic activist, and Melvin Lester Taymor, a gynecologist. The Outsiders (musical)
''The Outsiders'' is a 2023 musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance from the folk rock band Jamestown Revival alongside Justin Levine and a book by Adam Rapp and Levine. It is based on the novel '' The Outsiders'', first published in 1967 and written by S. E. Hinton, and on its 1983 film adaptation written by Kathleen Rowell and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In 1990, playwright Christopher Sergel published a straight play version of the story. The musical, told from the perspective of 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis, is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the 1960s and follows the conflict between two rival gangs divided by their socioeconomic status: the working-class " Greasers" and the upper-middle-class "Socs" (pronounced —short for '' Socials'').
