Danny Johnson (racing Driver)
Danny Johnson (born March 3, 1960) is an American Dirt Modified racing driver who has earned over 600 feature event victories at 55 different speedways in 13 states and two Canadian provinces. Racing career Danny Johnson began his racing career in 1979 with a win at the Canandaigua Speedway NY, and claimed his 200th victory in 2022 at the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, New York. He has also competed and been victorious at the east coast race tracks from Florida to Canada, including Lebanon Valley Speedway NY, Orange County Fair Speedway NY, Ransomville Speedway NY, and Weedsport Speedway NY. Johnson captured the 1997 Super Dirt Week 300 on the Syracuse Mile and won the companion 358 modified title twice, first in 1997, and then in 2006. He was crowned the overall Mr. DIRT champion in 1989, 1992, 1997 and again in 1999, and was inducted into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame in 2019. Phelps is a town in Ontario County, New York, United States. The population was 6,637 at the 2020 census. The Town of Phelps contains a village called Phelps. Both are north of Geneva. History The town was part of the Phelps and Gorham Purchase. The region was first settled around 1788. The town was formed in 1796 and was formerly known as "Sullivan." Orange County Fair Speedway
Orange County Fair Speedway is a dirt oval speedway in Middletown, Orange County, New York. The facility holds weekly stock car races and demolition derbies during the summer months. The track was built in 1857 for horse racing at the Orange County Fair and staged its first automobile race on August 16, 1919. The fair began as an agricultural exhibit in 1843 and was permanently located in the Wallkill–Middletown area in 1857. The speedway is located at 239 Wisner Avenue in Middletown on land which was known as The Ogden Tract in the mid-1850s. It was originally a half-mile horse racing track known as the Harry Clay Oval, named after a race horse that was famous at that time. Super Dirt Week is a modified racing event held annually on Columbus Day weekend in Central New York state. History The first event was scheduled over three days, from September 29, through October 1, 1972 at the New York State Fairgrounds. Inspection and qualifying races were conducted on Friday and Saturday, and the Championship race was held on Sunday. In 1976 a fourth day was added to the schedule, and a 100 mile race the USAC Champ Cars was held on Saturday October 2. Weedsport Speedway
Weedsport Speedway, formerly known as Cayuga County Fair Speedway, is a 3/8 mile oval dirt racetrack located on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Weedsport, New York. Auto racing In the early 1950s Stanley Dudzinski carved a one-third mile oval into a berry patch to practice driving his race car. He and his wife Irene further developed the facility and in 1955 the gates were opened for the first competitive event. Glenn Donnelly (originally with Ken Ermiger) purchased the race track in 1970, increasing the clay oval to 3/8 mile, and creating the flagship for the Super DIRTcar Series.
