Danny Ellis (born 18 July 1947) is an Irish singer-songwriter and author. Early life and education Danny Ellis was born on 18 July 1947 in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. He was sent to the Artane Industrial school in 1955 until 1963. At Artane he joined the Artane Boys' Band. Career As a professional trombonist, Ellis played with Irish showbands The Airchords (1964), The Jim Farley Band (1965-66), The Nevada Showband (1969), Dickie Rock Richard Rock (10October 19366December 2024) was an Irish singer. Chiefly associated with the era of showbands in Ireland, Rock came to prominence as a member of The Miami Showband in the 1960s, subsequently becoming a solo artist in 1973. Artane Industrial School
St. Josephs Industrial School, Artane was an Industrial School run by the Christian Brothers in Artane, Dublin from 1870 to 1969. History On 28 July 1870, the Artane Industrial School for Roman Catholic Boys, also known as St Joseph's, was officially certified to receive boys up to the age of 14 committed by magistrates for matters such as destitution, neglect, truancy and minor offences. The school was opened at the former site of Artane Castle on 56 acres of land. Dormitories accommodated up to 150 boys. The dining area or refectory accommodated all 825 boys at one sitting. The facility comprised the School, the trade shops and the farm, in addition to the Community house. The school was set up in Artane House and buildings were constructed to designs by Charles Geoghan from 1871 to 1879 at a cost of £20,000. The Artane Band () is a marching band for young musicians based at the Artane School of Music in Artane, Dublin, Artane in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Name The band was originally called the Artane Boys Band, with members drawn from the pupils at Artane Industrial School, an Industrial Schools in Ireland, industrial school which closed in 1969. Its name changed to "Artane Band" in 2004 when girls were first admitted. The Irish showband () was a dance band format popular in Ireland from the 1950s to the 1980s, with its peak in the 1960s. These bands typically had seven to ten members, including a rhythm section and a brass section with various combinations of trumpet, saxophone, and trombone, and were fronted by lead singers. Richard Rock (10October 19366December 2024) was an Irish singer. Chiefly associated with the era of showbands in Ireland, Rock came to prominence as a member of The Miami Showband in the 1960s, subsequently becoming a solo artist in 1973. He represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1966. Rock continued to tour for several decades until his retirement in 2021. Early career Rock was born on 10October 1936 in the North Strand, Dublin, and raised in Cabra on Dublin's Northside.
