Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The 2017 U Sports Men's Volleyball Championship was held from March 17 to March 19, 2017, in Edmonton, Alberta, to determine a national champion for the 2016–17 U Sports men's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the Saville Community Sports Centre at the University of Alberta. It was the sixth time that Alberta had hosted the tournament and the first time since 2009. 2016 CIS Men's Volleyball Championship
The 2016 CIS Men's Volleyball Championship was held from March 10 to March 12, 2016, in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton, Ontario, to determine a U Sports men's volleyball championship, national champion for the 2015–16 U Sports men's volleyball season. The 50th edition of the tournament was played at Burridge Gymnasium on the campus of McMaster University. It was the fourth time that McMaster had hosted the tournament and the first since 2007. The Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Canada West champion Trinity Western Spartans men's volleyball, Trinity Western Spartans defeated the top-seeded host Ontario University Athletics, OUA champion McMaster Marauders 3–1 to win the fourth title in program history.
