Danish String Quartet
The Danish String Quartet made its debut at the Copenhagen Summer Festival in 2002. The group is known for its performances of classical music as well as its own renditions of traditional Nordic folk music. The quartet has also worked with an extensive range of contemporary Scandinavian composers. DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. DR was originally funded by a media licence, however since 2022, the media license has been replaced by an addition to the Danish income tax. Today, DR operates three television channels, all of which are distributed free-to-air via a nationwide DVB-T2 network. DR also operates seven radio channels. All are available nationally on DAB+ radio and online, with the four original stations also available on FM radio. Sebastian Manz
Sebastian Manz (born 1986) is a German clarinetist. Life and work Sebastian Manz was born in Hanover and son of pianist Wolfgang Manz and Julia Goldstein and grandson of the Russian violinist Boris Goldstein, began studying clarinet at Musikhochschule Lübeck in 1997. He won first place in ''Jugend musiziert'' in 1994 and 1999–2003. He was the first clarinetist in 40 years to win first prize in the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2008. In the same year, Manz and his partner on piano Martin Klett as "Duo Riul" won the first prize in of the German national competition Deutscher Musikwettbewerb. Sebastian Manz was the recipient in 2012 of yet another ECHO Klassik award, this time in the "Chamber Music Recording of the Year" category, for his recording of the Mozart and Beethoven quintets together with Ramón Ortega Quero, Marc Trénel, David Alonso and Herbert Schuch. ECM Records
ECM (Edition of Contemporary Music) is an independent record label founded by Karl Egger, Manfred Eicher and Manfred Scheffner in Munich in 1969. While ECM is best known for jazz music, the label has released a variety of recordings, and ECM's artists often refuse to acknowledge boundaries between genres. ECM's motto is "the most beautiful sound next to silence", taken from a 1971 review of ECM releases in '' Coda'', a Canadian jazz magazine. ECM has been distributed in the U.S. by Warner Bros. Borletti-Buitoni Trust
The Borletti-Buitoni Trust () (BBT) was established as a charitable trust in 2002 to help young musicians throughout the world. The Trust assists classical instrumentalists, ensembles and singers in their early 20s and 30s to further develop their international careers with awards that fund tailor-made projects. The first awards were made in 2003. The Trust confidentially invites respected figures in the classical music profession to nominate young artists for consideration. Awards are announced in February every other year according to the judgement of the Artistic Committee which comprises Adam Gatehouse, Martijn Sanders, and Mitsuko Uchida, a founding trustee. In addition to the financial budgets, which range from £20,000 to £30,000, the Trust offers support in matters such as public relations and media communications. Carl Nielsen
Carl August Nielsen (; 9 June 1865 – 3 October 1931) was a Danish composer, conductor and violinist, widely recognized as his country's most prominent composer. Brought up by poor yet musically talented parents on the island of Funen, he demonstrated his musical abilities at an early age. He initially played in a military band before attending the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen from 1884 until December 1886. He premiered his Op. 1, '' Suite for Strings'', in 1888, at the age of 23. The following year, Nielsen began a 16-year stint as a second violinist in the Royal Danish Orchestra under the conductor Johan Svendsen, during which he played in Giuseppe Verdi's '' Falstaff'' and ''Otello'' at their Danish premieres. Vagn Holmboe
Vagn Gylding Holmboe (, 20 December 1909 – 1 September 1996) was a Danish composer and teacher. Life Vagn Holmboe was born in Horsens, Jutland, into a merchant family of dedicated amateur musicians. Both parents played the piano. His father earned his living as a maker of colours and lacquers at Horsens . The Danish journalist Knud Holmboe was his elder brother. From the age of 14 Vagn Holmboe took violin lessons. In 1926, at the age of 16, he began formal music training at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen on the recommendation of Carl Nielsen.
