Danilo Plessow
Danilo Plessow is a music producer and DJ (born c. 1985), perhaps best known for his work as the alias Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE). Raised in the German town of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Plessow played drums from the age of 6 years old and began creating his own music using a computer and samples from the age of 11. Musical influences include Moodymann, Marvin Gaye, 70s jazz and 90s hiphop including early J Dilla and Pete Rock. In his formative years he would travel into the nearby city of Stuttgart to collect vinyl records. The alias Motor City Drum Ensemble is a nod to his Detroit musical influences as well as referencing Stuttgart (home of Mercedes Benz and Porsche) and his collection of drum machines. Plessow is famed for the Raw Cuts series and has released singles and remixes on over twenty record labels. Schwäbisch Gmünd
Schwäbisch Gmünd (, until 1934: Gmünd; Swabian: ''Gmẽẽd'' or ''Gmend'') is a city in the eastern part of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. With a population of around 60,000, the city is the second largest in the Ostalb district and the whole East Württemberg region after Aalen. The city is a '' Große Kreisstadt'' since 1956, i.e. a chief city under district administration; it was the administrative capital of its own rural district until the local government reorganisation on 1 January 1973. Kenny Dixon Jr., better known by his stage name Moodymann, is an American musician based in Detroit, Michigan. He released his 1997 debut album ''Silentintroduction'' on the label Planet E Communications. He is the owner of the record labels Mahogani Music and KDJ Records. He is also a member of the group 3 Chairs. Early life Moodymann was born in Los Angeles, CA. At three weeks old, his mother returned with him to Detroit, where both his parents are from. Marvin Gaye
Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. (; April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984) was an American Rhythm and blues, R&B and soul singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. J Dilla
James Dewitt Yancey (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006), better known by the stage names J Dilla and Jay Dee, was an American record producer, composer and rapper. He emerged from the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan, as a member of the group Slum Village. He was also a member of the Soulquarians, a musical collective active during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He additionally collaborated with Madlib as Jaylib, releasing the album ''Champion Sound''. Yancey's final album was ''Donuts (album), Donuts'', which was released three days before his death. He was also known for producing The Pharcyde album ''Labcabincalifornia''. Yancey died at the age of 32 from a combination of Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, TTP and lupus. Peter O. Phillips (born June 21, 1970), better known by his stage name Pete Rock, is an American record producer, DJ and rapping, rapper. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, and is often mentioned alongside DJ Premier, RZA, and Q-Tip (musician), Q-Tip as one of the mainstays of 1990s East Coast hip hop production. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s as one half of the critically acclaimed group Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Early on in his career, he was also famed for his remix work. Kyoto Jazz Massive
Kyoto Jazz Massive is a Japanese musical project specialising in crossover jazz and electronic styles. The group was formed in 1992 and consists of brothers Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino. They have also included Hajime Yoshizawa, a piano producer, on a number of works. Although the brothers DJed in the late 1980s and were remixing and composing as far back as the early 1990s, they were largely popularised by the British Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson around 2001. Background Brothers Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino, both DJs and remixers in Kyoto, formed the project in 1994. They released their debut, self-titled album, the same year. In 2015, to celebrate their 20-year anniversary, the duo put together a full jazz band, titled Kyoto Jazz Sextet. Their debut album, ''Mission'', came out the same year. Worldwide FM is a Freeform radio, freeform internet radio service that highlights "underground music, culture and stories from around the globe." Founded in 2016 by DJ Gilles Peterson, longtime host of the BBC Radio program ''Worldwide'', the platform features a rotating roster of international radio DJs and programming.
