Daniel McLean (businessman)
Daniel McLean (MacLean or McClean) (October 2, 1770 in New Jersey – February 8, 1823 in Alexandria, Virginia) was a successful businessman in banking trade who owned one of the earliest sugar refineries in Alexandria, Virginia. He was also a chief benefactor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. McLean's father, Donald McLean, was born in Isle of Mull, Argyll, Scotland. Daniel McLean married Lucretia Hodgkinson, daughter of Bethanath Hodgkinson and Catherine Zimmerman. Daniel and Lucretia McLean were the parents of several children, including Wilmer McLean whose house in Appomattox, Virginia the Civil-War Peace Treaty was signed under. Biography Not long after marrying, Daniel and his wife moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where Daniel soon established a bakery. They bought some property in the south side of Old Town. Daniel McLean (Canadian Politician)
Lt.-Col. Daniel McLean (January 4, 1868 – March 2, 1950) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1914 to 1915, and later served as the 32nd Mayor of Winnipeg for two years. McLean was a member of the Conservative Party. Biography McLean was born in the Scotch Block of Esquesing Township, Halton County, Ontario, the son of Mr. G. McLean, and was educated at public schools in Georgetown. McLean came to Manitoba in 1892. In 1895, he married A. Blanchard. He worked as a real estate broker and farmer, and served as president of McLean and Grisdale Ltd. He was also appointed Lieutenant-Colonel of the 106th Regiment (Winnipeg Light Infantry) on April 1, 1912. In religion, McLean was a Presbyterian. McLean was an alderman in Winnipeg from 1907 to 1910, and a city controller from 1913 to 1914. Daniel McLean (sheriff)
Daniel Dennis McLean (May 20, 1854 – August 25, 1908) was a Canadian politician. He represented Dennis in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1886 to 1892 as a Liberal. His surname also appears as MacLean. Born in Elgin County, Canada West, the son of John McLean, McLean was raised on a farm before studying to become a teacher. After having health problems, he moved to Manitoba settling in the Pipestone Valley in the County of Dennis where he was a farmer. From 1884 to 1886, he was reeve for the Rural Municipality of Pipestone. McLean was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba in the 1886 election. He was re-elected in 1888 and was defeated in 1892. From September 5, 1889 to May 26, 1892 he was the Provincial Secretary. McLean also served as Minister of Education.
