The Barbarian Invasions
''The Barbarian Invasions'' () is a 2003 Canadian-French sex comedy-Drama (film and television), drama film written and directed by Denys Arcand and starring Rémy Girard, Stéphane Rousseau and Marie-Josée Croze. The film is a sequel to Arcand's 1986 film ''The Decline of the American Empire'', continuing the story of the character Rémy, a womanizing history professor now terminally ill with cancer. The sequel was a result of Arcand's longtime desire to make a film about a character close to death, also incorporating a response to the September 11 attacks of 2001. It was produced by companies from both Canada and France, and shot mainly in Montreal, also employing a former hospital and property near Lake Memphremagog. The film received a positive response from critics and became one of Arcand's biggest financial successes. Denise Robert
Denise Robert, (born 1954) is a Canadian film producer, who is president of Cinémaginaire, a studio she co-founded with Daniel Louis.André Loiselle"Denise Robert" '' The Canadian Encyclopedia'', December 29, 2015. Genie Awards
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978), known as the "Etrog Awards" for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed its statuette. Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which were distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, met to watch the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then voted on these nominations. In 2012, the Academy announced that the Genies would merge with its sister presentation for television, the Gemini Awards, to form a new award presentation, the Canadian Screen Awards.
