Daniel J. Clancy
Daniel J. Clancy (New Orleans, 11 January 1964) is an American technologist and computer scientist. He was the engineering director for Google Book Search from 2005 to early 2014. From February 2014 to 2018 he worked for the social networking service Nextdoor. He joined Twitch interactive in 2019, where he serves as the President, and leads product, engineering and go-to market functions. Life and work Clancy received a BA in computer science and theatre from Duke University in 1985. He has a PhD in artificial intelligence from the University of Texas at Austin. While in school, Clancy later worked at Trilogy and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Clancy was director of the Exploration Technologies Directorate at NASA Ames Research Center. Exploration refers to the historical practice of discovering remote lands. It is studied by geographers and historians. Two major eras of exploration occurred in human history: one of convergence, and one of divergence. The first, covering most of ''Homo sapiens'' history, saw humans moving out of Africa, settling in new lands, and developing distinct cultures in relative isolation. Early explorers settled in Europe and Asia; 14,000 years ago, some crossed the Ice Age land bridge from Siberia to Alaska, and moved southbound to settle in the Americas.
