Daniel Hollander
Daniel "Dan" Hollander (born May 9, 1972) is an American figure skater. He is a two-time Vienna Cup champion (1995, 1997) and a two-time U.S. national bronze medalist (1996, 1997). He finished tenth at the 1996 World Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In the 1996–97 season, Hollander trained under Diana Ronayne in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. In 1999, he sustained a number of injuries that forced him to turn professional. He became known for his comedic skating programs. Hollander announced his retirement from competition by executing a backflip, which was an illegal element in figure skating at that time. The ban has since been lifted. Hollander coaches figure skating in Maryland. Bofrost Cup On Ice
The Bofrost Cup on Ice was an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU), organized and hosted by the German Ice Skating Union (). The first iteration was held in 1986 in Frankfurt. When the ISU launched the Champions Series (later renamed the Grand Prix Series) in 1995, the German competition – then called the Nations Cup – was one of the five qualifying events. It remained a Grand Prix event until 2002, after which point it was supplanted by the Cup of China. Compulsory Figures
Compulsory figures or school figures were formerly a segment of figure skating, and gave the sport its name. They are the "circular patterns which skaters trace on the ice to demonstrate skill in placing clean turns evenly on round circles". For approximately the first 50 years of figure skating as a sport, until 1947, compulsory figures made up 60 percent of the total score at most competitions around the world. These figures continued to dominate the sport, although they steadily declined in importance, until the International Skating Union (ISU) voted to discontinue them as a part of competitions in 1990. Learning and training in compulsory figures instilled discipline and control; some in the figure skating community considered them necessary to teach skaters basic skills. The Nebelhorn Trophy is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU), organized and hosted by the German Ice Skating Union () and held in Oberstdorf, Germany. The competition debuted in 1969 and is named after the Nebelhorn, a nearby mountain. When the ISU launched the ISU Challenger Series in 2014, the Nebelhorn Trophy was one of the inaugural competitions. The Nebelhorn Trophy has been a Challenger Series every year since.
