Daniel Halemba
Daniel Halemba (born 2001) is a German politician and member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Early life and education Daniel Halemba was born in Upper Silesia in Poland in 2001. When he was three years old, his parents moved to Baden-Württemberg before eventually settling in Lower Franconia. He is a university student studying business law. Investigation and arrest On 14 September 2023, the police searched a house of the fraternity, of which Halemba was a member, and seized evidence. The search was part of an ongoing investigation into the organization for use of banned symbols and incitement to hatred after neighbors had reported hearing "Sieg Heil" shouted from the home. Halemba described the warrant as "totally lawless". Katrin Ebner-Steiner has claimed the house-search was politically motivated, with the aim of harming the AfD. Bavarian State Parliament
The Landtag of Bavaria, officially known in English as the Bavarian State Parliament, is the unicameral legislature of the German state of Bavaria. The parliament meets in the Maximilianeum in Munich. Elections to the Landtag are held every five years and have to be conducted on a Sunday or public holiday. The following elections have to be held no earlier than 59 months and no later than 62 months after the previous one, unless the Landtag is dissolved. The most recent elections to the Bavarian Landtag were held on 8 October 2023. Bavaria's current state government, the third Söder cabinet, was formed after the 2023 election and is a coalition of the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Free Voters (FW). An identical coalition was in power as the second Söder cabinet between 2018 and 2023. Markus Söder has been Minister-President of Bavaria since March 2018, when he succeeded Horst Seehofer. 2023 Bavarian State Election
The 2023 Bavarian state election was held on 8 October 2023 to elect the members of the 19th Landtag of Bavaria. The outgoing government was a coalition of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) and the Free Voters of Bavaria (FW) led by Minister-President of Bavaria Markus Söder. The 2023 Hessian state election was held the same day. The CSU remained the largest party with only a slight decline to 37%. The Free Voters improved to second place with 16%, their best result to date. The opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) was a close third on 15%. The Greens declined to 14%, followed by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) on a historic low of 8%. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) fell to 3% and lost their seats. Overall, the incumbent coalition increased its majority thanks to the Free Voters' gains.
