Dand Aw Patan District
Dand Aw Patan District ( ps, ډنډ او پټان ولسوالۍ ''ḍanḍ aw paṭān wuləswāləi''; fa, ولسوالی دند و پتان) is a district of Paktia Province, Afghanistan. The district is within the heartland of the Zazi tribe of Pashtuns. It lies on the Durand Line border with the Kurram District of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security and Politics On 19 August 2009 the Taliban attacked a border police check-post, killing one policeman. On 29 May 2020, the Taliban stormed border security forces check posts in Dand Aw Patan District. 14 Afghan security personnel were killed in the attack and three others were injured. Two Taliban insurgents were also killed during the attack. Mangal (Pashtun Tribe)
The Mangal ( ps, منگل) are a tribe of the Pashtun people residing in eastern Paktia and adjacent Khost provinces of Afghanistan, and in the town of Tari Mangal, district Kurram, Pakistan. Their land constitutes the northeastern part of the Loya Paktia (Greater Paktia) region. The Mangals descend from Karlani Pashtun lineage. Mangals are known for their brave and independent nature, they have resisted the various militant groups in the region and other external infiltrators, nevertheless they have remained neutral in respect of recent conflicts. The Durand Line ( ps, د ډیورنډ کرښه; ur, ), forms the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, a international land border between Pakistan and Afghanistan in South Asia. The western end runs to the border with Iran and the eastern end to the border with China. Kurram District
Kurram District ( ps, کرم ولسوالۍ, ur, ) is a district in Kohat Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.The name Kurram comes from the river Kuramá ( ps, کورمه) in Pashto which itself derives from the Sanskrit name Krumuḥ (). Until 2018, it was an agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas, with merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it became a district. Geographically, it covers the Kurram Valley region which is a valley in the northwestern part of Pakistan. Most of the population is Pashtun and the main religion is Islam (Shia and Sunni). May 2020 Afghanistan Attacks
In May 2020, a series of insurgent attacks took place in Afghanistan, starting when the Taliban killed 20 Afghan soldiers and wounded 29 others in Zari, Balkh and Grishk, Helmand on 1 and 3 May, respectively. On 12 May, a hospital's maternity ward in Kabul and a funeral in Kuz Kunar (Khewa), Nangarhar were attacked, resulting in the deaths of 56 people and injuries of 148 others, including newborn babies, mothers, nurses, and mourners. ISIL–KP claimed responsibility for the funeral bombing, but no insurgent group claimed responsibility for the hospital shooting.
