''Dancing with the Stars'' is an Irish reality television series, airing on RTÉ One, that started on 8 January 2017. It is currently hosted by Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy. The show is based on the original UK version, ''Strictly Come Dancing'', and is part of the ''Dancing with the Stars'' franchise. The judging panel currently consists of Arthur Gourounlian, Loraine Barry, Karen Byrne and Brian Redmond. Production In August 2016, it was confirmed that RTÉ One would broadcast an Irish version of ''Dancing with the Stars'', which would replace the successful ''The Voice of Ireland'', which was cancelled in order for the broadcaster to order the new show. ''The Voice of Ireland'' is the Irish edition of the international TV franchise '' The Voice'', a reality singing competition created by media tycoon John de Mol Jr. The first series began airing from 8 January 2012 on RTÉ One. The coaches originally were Bressie, Sharon Corr, Kian Egan and Brian Kennedy. Kennedy left after the first series and was replaced by Jamelia. ''Dancing with the Stars'' returned for a sixth series on 8 January 2023 on RTÉ One. On 25 August 2022, Nicky Byrne announced that he would be stepping down as host after five seasons to focus on touring commitments with his band, Westlife. ''Dancing with the Stars'' returned for a fifth series on 9 January 2022 on RTÉ One. This was the first series in two years after the show was put on a year-long hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Martin "Marty" Whelan (born 7 June 1956) is an Irish radio and television personality currently working for Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). His early television credits included the game shows ''Millionaire'' and '' Fame and Fortune'', and the weekday afternoon show, '' Open House''.
