Danao, officially the Municipality of Danao ( ceb, Munisipalidad sa Danao; tgl, Bayan ng Danao), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Bohol, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 20,245 people. The town of Danao, Bohol celebrates its fiesta on December 10, to honor the town patron the Holy Family. Etymology According to the ''Diccionario Español-Bisaya'' (1866), danao means ''charca, lago, laguna, pantano, estanque grande, avenida, campañas,'' etc. (lake, lagoon, freshet, large reservoir, arable land, field, etc.). Except that of a lake, all definitions of danao describe the municipality of Danao, with freshet being the most likely meaning. A freshet is either a sudden rise or overflow of a stream or river, or freshwater stream emptying into the sea. Danao, officially the City of Danao ( ceb, Dakbayan sa Danao; fil, Lungsod ng Danao), is a 3rd class component city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 156,321 people. Danao is within the Metro Cebu area. Geography Danao is in the Metro Cebu area and is from Cebu City. It is bordered on the north by Carmen, on the west by Asturias, on the south by Compostela and to the east by the Camotes Sea. Pototan ( krj, Banwa ka Pototan, hil, Banwa sang Pototan, tgl, Bayan ng Pototan), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 78,298 people. The town lies on the banks of the Suage River, north from Iloilo City. The town has an area of 94 km2, 85% of which is agricultural land. In December 1997, it was declared as the "Christmas Capital of Western Visayas" because of its famed Christmas Festival of Lights. Danao-Danao Island (variously Danao Danao island, Danao Island, Dunad Island, Dunao Island or Dunao Islet) is a small, low-lying island in northeastern Iloilo, Philippines. Pilar Manalo Danao (March 10, 1914 - November 26, 1987) also known as Ka Pilar, Manang and PMD, was the eldest daughter of Felix Y. Manalo and the first Head Choir Director of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) from 1942 until her death in 1987. She was instrumental in the creation of hymns for INC; she is the sole lyricist of the church’s Tagalog hymnal, ''Ang Himnario ng Iglesia ni Cristo''. The hymnal originally contained 220 songs, and its first publication in 1937 bears her name and initials imprinted on hymnals (in Tagalog and English) and musical scores (Tagalog) for the choir.
