Dana Snyman
Dana Snyman is a South African journalist, writer and playwright. Snyman was born in Stellenbosch and matriculated from Nylstroom High School. He later followed a journalism course at the Tshwane University of Technology before joining the Afrikaans newspaper Beeld as a crime reporter. Three years later he became a journalist at Huisgenoot magazine, where he worked for ten years. As of 2007, Snyman is the travel editor of Weg! magazine. His first book, ''Uit die binneland'' (From the country) was published in 2005 and his second, ''Anderkant die scrap'' (On the other side of the scrap), in 2006. Both are collected short-short stories and sketches. Snyman's first play, the one-man comedy ''Die Uwe, Pottie Potgieter '' (Yours Truly, Pottie Potgieter), was first performed in 2006 by Frank Opperman and was the runner-up for the AngloGold Ashanti/Aardklop-Smeltkroes Award for new texts in the same year. ''Huisgenoot'' (Afrikaans language, Afrikaans for ''Housemate'') is a weekly South African Afrikaans-language general-interest family magazine. It has the highest circulation figures of any South African magazine and is followed by sister magazine ''You (South African magazine), YOU'', its English-language version. A third magazine, ''Drum (South African magazine), Drum'', is directed at the black market. The magazines have a combined circulation of about 550 000 copies a week. Yvonne Beyers is the current editor of ''Huisgenoot''. It is estimated that more than two million people read ''Huisgenoot'' weekly. The magazine also has many brand extensions and a popular concert, Skouspel, was held at Sun City, North West, Sun City every year until 2014. The Afrikaans Language and Culture Association (Afrikaans: Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging), ATKV, is a society that aims to promote the Afrikaans language and culture. The association was founded in 1930 in Cape Town. Since its inception and up to the end of Apartheid in 1994, membership was only open to members of the Afrikaner Christian community. Frank Opperman (South African Actor)
Frank Opperman (born 8 June 1960) is a South African actor and musician. Career Born in Johannesburg, Opperman attended numerous schools across South Africa in Worcester, Benoni, Hermanus and Middelburg. He matriculated from Silverton High School in Pretoria in 1978. Opperman started studying law in 1979 at the University of Pretoria but soon lost interest and joined the South African Defence Force in 1980, where he played in an army marching band. Upon leaving the service, he dated a female drama student and became interested in acting as a career option. He subsequently obtained a three-year national diploma in acting at the Pretoria Technikon and received the Pretoria Trust Award for best student.
