Dan Frechette
Dan Frechette (born September 12, 1976 in Flin Flon, Manitoba) is a Canadian entertainer, singer-songwriter, and instrumentalist whose compositions have been recorded by The Duhks, Dervish, and The Ploughboys. Career Frechette was signed to EMI Music Publishing as a teenager and has since written over 1,500 songs and released over 100 albums of original music. His song "Mists of Down Below" was The Duhks 2004 single for their second studio album "The Duhks" and his song "You Don't See It" was a 2008 single for their fourth album "Fast Paced World". His song "Who Will Take My Place" was included on The Duhks third album "Migrations" and The Ploughboys album "Live at the 'Shed'". Frechette's compositions have been featured in soundtracks for Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms and Big Drive. The Duhks
The Duhks are a Canadian folk fusion band, formed in 2002 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Featuring banjo, fiddle, guitar, percussion, and vocals, The Duhks blend folk music together with various Canadian and American traditional styles, including soul, gospel, old-time country string, and zydeco. EMI Music Publishing Ltd. is a British multinational music publishing company headquartered in London, owned by parent company Sony Corporation of America. In May 2018, Sony Music Publishing agreed to increase its stake in EMI to 90%, pending regulatory approval. Winnipeg Folk Festival
The Winnipeg Folk Festival is a nonprofit charitable organization with an annual summer folk music festival held in Birds Hill Provincial Park, near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The festival features a variety of artists and music from around the world and is sure to include a number of local artists. Begun by Mitch Podolak, Colin Gorrie, and Ava Kobrinsky in 1974 as a celebration of Winnipeg's centennial, the festival itself has grown into an event exceeding 70,000 attendees to the festival annually. Mariposa Folk Festival
Mariposa Folk Festival is a Canadian music festival founded in 1961 in Orillia, Ontario. It was held in Orillia for three years before being banned because of disturbances by festival-goers. After being held in various places in Ontario for a few decades, it returned to Orillia in 2000. Ruth Jones, her husband Dr. Crawford Jones, brother David Major and Pete McGarvey organized the first Mariposa Folk Festival in August 1961. The inaugural event, covered by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, featured all Canadian performers. The festival grew in popularity, size and rowdiness until the popularity of the 1963 festival (with over 8,000 advance tickets sold), and the lack of sufficient security, led to a backlash from town locals. CityFolk Festival (known until 2014 as the Ottawa Folk Festival) is a folk music festival held annually in Ottawa, Canada. William Sigurd Bourne (28 March 1954 – 16 April 2022) was a Canadian musician. He won three Canadian Juno Awards, and was an eight-time nominee. Bourne's music incorporates musical elements from around the world, including aboriginal, African, Cajun, Celtic, country, delta blues, flamenco, folk, funk, gospel, reggae, and world beat.
