Dan Doona is a Gaelic footballer from Beaufort, County Kerry. He currently is a member for the New York county team and has been captain of the team since 2010. He played for Kerry at all levels winning Munster Minor Football Championship medals in 2002 and 2003. Beaufort GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Beaufort, County Kerry, Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of Gaelic football. History Located in the village of Beaufort, between Killarney and Killorglin, Beaufort GAA Club was founded in 1929. The club has spent most of its existence operating in the junior grade, however, Kerry IFC titles were claimed in 1980 and again in 2000. Beaufort enjoyed one of its most successful seasons during 2018–19. After claiming the Kerry JFC title, the club subsequently beat Dromtarriffe to win the Munster Club JFC title. Beaufort, County Kerry
Beaufort () is a small village that lies on the banks of the River Laune in County Kerry, in the southwest of Ireland. It consists of a post office, three public houses, one supermarket, parish hall, guest houses and thirty private houses. As of the 2016 census, the population was 251. Beaufort sits at the foot of Ireland's highest mountain Carrantuohill. Edward Day, Archdeacon of Ardfert from 1782, lived here until his death in 1808. His estate later passed to his nephew, the Reverend John Robert Fitzgerald-Day, who lived at Beaufort from the 1840s to his death in 1881. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Munster Minor Football Championship
The Munster Minor Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1928 for the youngest competitors (under-18) in the province of Munster in Ireland. It is currently sponsored by Electric Ireland and therefore officially known as the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Football Minor Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Munster final currently being played on the second Sunday in July. The minor final provides the curtain-raiser to the senior final. Mid Kerry is one of the divisions of Kerry Gaelic Athletic Association. It organizes Gaelic football and hurling competitions for the clubs within the division and fields teams in county competitions. The division is based around the town of Killorglin and neighbouring parishes.
