Basketligan dam, formerly known as Damligan until 2011â12, is the top professional women's basketball league in Sweden. It began in the 2001â02 season, when it replaced the old Elitserien. The league currently has 14 teams. SödertÀlje BBK
SödertÀlje Basketbollklubb, shortly SBBK, is a Swedish basketball club based in SödertÀlje. The city is located in Eastern Södermanland, 34 km south of Stockholm. Its men's team plays in the Swedish Basketball League (SBL) and has won the national championship 12 times, which makes it the most successful team in Swedish basketball. The team's home arena is the TÀljehallen, which has a capacity of 2,000 people. From 1995 until 2020, the men's team was named SödertÀlje Kings. Teacher Lennart Carlqvist who introduced the sport to a group of boys. 2 years later in 1962 the boys contacted KFUM SödertÀlje (YMCA) to ask them to start a basketball section in their organisation. Solna Vikings was a Swedish professional basketball club with a men's team and a women's team. Both played in their respective top leagues: the women in the Damligan, and the men in the Swedish Basketball League. History The Solna Vikings was founded on 27 April 1999, when Solna IF announced that it would not continue playing. Solna Vikings Men won the Swedish men's national championship in 2003, and the women won the national championship in 2002, 2004 and 2006. On 6 July 2015 it was announced that the men's team was leaving the Swedish Basketball League because of economic problems. In June 2016, the club merged with AIK Basket.
