Damien Alary
Damien Alary (born January 17, 1951, in Pompignan) is a French politician and a member of the Socialist Party. He was the chairman of the Departmental Council of Gard from 2001 to 2014, then briefly President of the regional council of Languedoc-Roussillon from 2014 to 2015. Biography Political career He joined the Socialist Party in 1977 after a meeting with Michel Rocard. In 1979, he was elected mayor of Pompignan; in 1986, regional councilor of Languedoc-Roussillon, and in 1988, general councilor of the canton of Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort. He was elected in Gard's 5th constituency in 1997 and re-elected in 2002, from the Socialist Group. After having chaired the socialist group, under the presidency of Alain Journet, within the general council of Gard from 1998 to 2001, he was elected president in 2001. Robert Navarro (born 1 May 1952 in Cuxac-d'Aude, Aude) is a French politician and French Senator representing Hérault. He is a member of the Socialist Party (PS), which is part of the Party of European Socialists. He was elected Senator on 21 September 2008, on the official PS list, which came third behind the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) and 'renegade' PS lists in the Département of Hérault, which returns four Senators. Alès
Alès (; oc, Alès) is a commune in the Gard department in the Occitanie region in southern France. It is one of the sub-prefectures of the department. It was formerly known as ''Alais''. Geography Alès lies north-northwest of Nîmes, on the left bank of the river Gardon d'Alès, which half surrounds it. It is located at the foot of the Cévennes, near the Cévennes National Park. 2015 French Regional Elections
Regional elections were held in France on 6 and 13 December 2015. At stake were the regional councils in metropolitan and overseas France including the Corsican Assembly and inaugural seats in the Assembly of French Guiana and Assembly of Martinique, all for a six-year term. The Departmental Council of Mayotte, which also exercises the powers of a region, was the only region not participating in this election, having already been renewed on 2 April 2015. There were 18 regional presidencies at stake, with 13 in mainland France and Corsica, as well as 5 overseas.
