Damane Zakaria
Zakaria Damane (death 12 February 2022) was a Central African warlord and leader of Patriotic Rally for the Renewal of the Central African Republic armed group. Early life and career Damane was born Moustapha Maloum in Boromata in Vakaga prefecture. He belonged to the Goula ethnic group. He began his career as a diamond miner near Bria and later became the boss of diamond mining. In 2002, upon hearing of the death of Yaya Ramadan, he moved to Tiringoulou to revenge the death. He then worked as an anti-poaching guard and advisor to the mayor of Boromata. As an advisor, he was assigned to collect taxes from herders. Rebellion In 2006, Presidential Guard ransacked Tiringoulou and the PG soldiers attempted to arrest him. However, he managed to escape to the bush. Due to this incident, aggravated by the state negligence in Vakaga, Damane and Sabone decided to rebel against the François Bozizé government by creating the Union of Democratic Forces for Unity armed group. Boromata
Boromata is a village in the Vakaga Prefecture in the northern Central African Republic. History In 1962, Boromata had a population of 309 people. On 15 March 2008, 13 Chadian Soldiers under the command of the former chief of defense of the UFDR attacked joint UFDR-FACA forces and burned four homes in Boromata. During the attack, the joint forces managed to kill five attackers and capture four. The four prisoners were transferred to Bangui. As a result, 500 people fled to the bush. Central African Republic Civil War (2013-present) On 1 December 2020, the Misseriya Arabs militia from Um Dukhun, Sudan attacked Boromata due to the ethnic tensions between Misseriya and Goula. The Wagner Group (), officially known as PMC Wagner (, ), is a Russian state-funded private military company (PMC) controlled 2023 Wagner Group plane crash, until 2023 by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a former close ally of Russia's president Vladimir Putin, and since then by Pavel Prigozhin. The Wagner Group has used infrastructure of the Russian Armed Forces. Gula People
Gula, also spelled ''Goula'', is an ethnic group who lives in Central African Republic, Chad, and Sudan. In the Central African Republic, they live in the northern regions of Vakaga, Bamingui-Bangoran, and Haute-Kotto. History Gula people are believed to have originated from Blue Nile region in Ethiopia. Around 1750, they migrated to Darfur. In Darfur, the Gula people faced hostility from the Fur. Consequently, they migrated to an area near Lake Mamoun, Vakaga, in 1795. Lake Mamoun was chosen because there was plenty of fish, and the area was uninhabited before they arrived. In the 19th century, Gula people were often attacked by slave raiders from Darfur, Dar al Kuti, and Kara. Moreover, they had to pay a tribute of 1,000 slaves, ivory, honey, and copper to Darfur. Enslavement of Gula reached its peak in 1890-1911 when Dar al Kuti's ruler, Muhammad al-Sanussi, sent slave raiders to the Gula region to obtain slaves and pillage the villages.
