Dalmatian Identity
Dalmatian identity, or sometimes also Dalmatianism, Dalmatianness or Dalmatian nationalism, refers to the historical nationalism or patriotism of Dalmatians and Dalmatian culture. There were significant Dalmatian nationalists in the 19th century, but Dalmatian regional nationalism faded in significance over time in favor of ethnic nationalism. 17th century Dalmatian poet Jerolim Kavanjin (''Girolamo Cavagnini'') exhibited Dalmatianism, identifying himself as "Dalmatian" and calling Dalmatia his homeland, which John Fine interprets not to have been a nationalist notion. Flag Of Dalmatia
The flag of Dalmatia consisted of two identical horizontal stripes of light blue and yellow. Like the Croatian flag, it draws its modern roots from the period of the Austrian Empire, specifically from the Kingdom of Dalmatia. The coat of arms of Dalmatia - blue with three golden crowned leopard (lion guardant) heads - is never used on it, it is a simple yellow over blue bicolour without any emblem, as was custom of Austrian ''"landesfarben"''. The coat of arms was possibly sometimes set in it, but this was far from official. The bi-colour flag of Dalmatia was designed in 1802 and made for the first time in 1803. The flag has been in official use of the Kingdom of Dalmatia since 1822, when it was accepted by the Royal Council in Zadar. After 1918, there was no administrative region of Dalmatia, and no flag was used. People's Party (Dalmatia)
People's Party () was a political party in the Kingdom of Dalmatia. It was founded in 1861 after the failure of Bach's absolutism, as a branch of the People's Party in Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia. Its members were known as ''narodnjaci'', ''aneksionisti'' or ''puntari''. Its political goal was uniting Dalmatia with Croatia and Slavonia, stemming from their ideological origins in the Illyrian movement. It also gathered prominent Dalmatian Italians as well as Dalmatian Serbs. However, a Serb faction splintered in 1878, led by Stjepan Mitrov Ljubiša, into the Serb People's Party. From 1887 People's Party was renamed People's Croatian Party (), as a result of an internal compromise between the conservative majority led by Miho Klaić and a radical minority led by Mihovil Pavlinović and Juraj Biankini. History Of Dalmatia
The History of Dalmatia concerns the history of the area that covers eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and its inland regions, from the 2nd century BC up to the present day. The region was populated by Illyrian tribes around 1,000 B.C, including the Delmatae, who formed a kingdom and for whom the province is named. Later it was conquered by Rome, thus becoming the province of Dalmatia, part of the Roman Empire. Dalmatia was ravaged by barbaric tribes in the beginning of the 4th century. Slavs started settling in the area in the 6th and 7th century, including Croats. These Slavic arrivals created the Kingdom of Croatia and other Slavic principalities. Byzantium, Hungary, Venice and the Ottoman Empire all fought for control of Dalmatia. In the south the Republic of Ragusa (1358-1808) emerged. Dalmatian Action (, DA) was a 1990s regionalist and autonomist party in the region of Dalmatia within Croatia, that advocated for the political autonomy of Dalmatia within Croatia, including the creation of a Dalmatian regional government with a legislative assembly, with autonomy over cultural issues involving Dalmatia. Istrian identity, also known as Istrianity, Istrianism or Istrianness, is the Regionalism (politics), regionalist identity developed by the inhabitants of the part of Istria located in Croatia. The Kvarner Gulf (, or ; ; or ) sometimes also Kvarner Bay, is a bay in the northern Adriatic Sea, located between the Istrian peninsula and the northern Croatian Littoral mainland. The bay is a part of Croatia's internal waters. The largest islands within the Kvarner are Cres, Krk, Pag, Rab and Lošinj. A portion of the Kvarner Bay, located between Cres, Krk, Rab and Pag is also called (literally "little Kvarner"; or ), and the portion east of Krk and Rab is called Senj Channel (after the mainland town of Senj). Dalmatian Language
Dalmatian or Dalmatic (, ) is a group of now-extinct Romance varieties that developed along the coast of Dalmatia. Over the centuries they were increasingly influenced, and then supplanted, by Croatian and Venetian. It has not been demonstrated that Dalmatian belonged to a larger branch of Romance or even that its varieties constituted a valid genetic grouping of their own. The Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia (; or ; ) was a nominally autonomous kingdom and constitutionally defined separate political nation within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
