The Dallas Stallions were an American professional roller hockey team based at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas, that played in Roller Hockey International. Never financially sound, the team concluded the 1999 season with scant attendance and a 7–17–0–2 record. Year-by-year History In the Spring of 1999, the Dallas Stallions were announced as an expansion franchise for the struggling Roller Hockey International. The team was operated on a very small budget that allowed for almost no advertising. The head coach/general manager was former NHL player Alan May. The team was made up from minor league ice hockey players. Training camp was held in the spring/summer of 1999 at Slapshot Inline Hockey arena in Arlington, Texas. The team attempted to make a splash by drafting Central Hockey League legend Doug Lawrence. Lawrence reportedly refused to play unless he was paid additional money "under the table". ''Lubbock Avalanche-Journal'' is a newspaper based in Lubbock, Texas, United States. It is owned by Gannett. History ''The Lubbock Avalanche'' was founded in 1900 by John James Dillard and Thad Tubbs. According to Dillard, the name "Avalanche" was chosen due to his desire that the newspaper surprise the citizens of Lubbock. The newspaper was sold to James Lorenzo Dow in 1908. The ''Fort Worth Star-Telegram'' is an American daily newspaper serving Fort Worth and Tarrant County, the western half of the North Texas area known as the Metroplex. It is owned by The McClatchy Company. History In May 1905, Amon G. Carter accepted a job as an advertising space salesman for the new newspaper The ''Fort Worth Star''. She printed her first newspaper on February 1, 1906, with Carter as the advertising manager, and Louis J. Wortham as its first editor. The Western Professional Hockey League (abbreviated WPHL) was a minor professional ice hockey league. The WPHL operated from 1996 to 2001 with teams based in the southern United States, primarily Texas and Louisiana. Lubbock Cotton Kings
The Lubbock Cotton Kings were a professional ice hockey team formerly based in Lubbock, Texas as members of the Western Professional Hockey League and the Central Hockey League. The team played home games at City Bank Coliseum. History The Lubbock Cotton Kings played their first game in Lubbock Municipal Coliseum (later City Bank Coliseum) in October 1999. During the inaugural season, the Cotton Kings went 42–24–4 and lost in the second round of the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) playoffs.
