Dallas International Piano Competition
The Dallas International Piano Competition is a piano competition hosted biennially in Dallas, Texas by the Dallas Chamber Symphony. History The Dallas International Piano Competition was established in 2012 by Richard McKay and the Dallas Chamber Symphony. Early iterations of the competition were held at Southern Methodist University. Since 2022, the event has been held biennially and hosted in the Dallas Arts District. Pianists 18-35 years of age are eligible to participate. The event typically spans three rounds, which are held over the course of several days, with earlier rounds focused on concerto and solo repertoire. Since 2022, finalists have performed piano concertos with the Dallas Chamber Symphony at Moody Performance Hall. A jury of notable concert pianists and pedagogues decide how to award the competition’s main prize, consisting of a cash award and engagement to perform an additional concert with the Dallas Chamber Symphony. Moody Performance Hall
The Moody Performance Hall (formerly Dallas City Performance Hall) is a performing arts venue located in the Arts District of Downtown Dallas, Texas, USA. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) in collaboration with the Architect of Record, Corgan Associates, Inc., and constructed by thCity of Dallas the performance hall will be built in two phases. Richard McKay
Richard McKay (born 1982) is an American conductor, currently serving as music director of the Dallas Chamber Symphony. Education McKay holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the Peabody Institute, where he studied with Gustav Meier and Markand Thakar and served as assistant conductor of the Peabody orchestras and opera. He earned a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting, and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance, from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was music director of the University Orchestra and led productions at the Butler Opera Center. McKay attended the Aspen Music Festival as a fellowship conductor and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music as an apprentice conductor under Marin Alsop, where he led the world premiere of Clint Needham's ''Radiant Nation''. Dallas Chamber Symphony
The Dallas Chamber Symphony (DCS) is a professional, American chamber orchestra that performs in the Moody Performance Hall in the Arts District, Dallas. Founded in 2011, and led by artistic director, Richard McKay; the DCS presented its first season in 2012, and performs most of its concerts in the Moody Performance Hall. Critics have described the DCS as “extremely adroit”, “fresh” and “innovative.” The orchestra has been lauded for its film series, which pairs classic silent films with newly commissioned scores. Kenneth Broberg
Kenneth (Kenny) Broberg (born August 2, 1993) is an American classical pianist. In June 2017 he won the silver medal at the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. In June 2019 Broberg earned the third prize and bronze medal at The XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition. In June 2021 he won the American Piano Awards. Early life and musical education Broberg was born and raised in Minneapolis. Interested by the upright piano in his family home that was a wedding gift to his parents from his maternal grandparents, he began playing piano at the age of 6. At 9, he began studying piano with Dr. Joseph Zins at Crocus Hill Studios in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
