Dallas Friday
Dallas Friday (born 6 September 1986) is an American wakeboarder. Her competition victories include four X Games gold medals and several World Wakeboarding Titles. She has also won the ESPN ESPY Award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete. Career Friday began wakeboarding aged thirteen, and began competing professionally within a year. In her rookie season she won the Americas Cup title and a silver medal at the X Games, where she was the youngest competitor. Aged fourteen, Friday won gold at the ESPN X-Games and at the NBC Gravity Games. In 2001, she won the World Cup and placed first in the 2001 Malibu Open, the first two Pro tour stops, the Vans Triple Crown Ford Ranger Pro, Cable Wakeboarding Nationals, and the X-cup. In the 2003-2004 season, Friday won all but one professional event, and in 2005 she won her third gold at the X Games. Wakeboard
Wakeboarding is a water sport in which the rider, standing on a wakeboard (a board with foot bindings), is towed behind a motorboat across its wake and especially up off the crest in order to perform aerial maneuvers. A hallmark of wakeboarding is the attempted performance of midair tricks. Wakeboarding was developed from a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing techniques. The rider is usually towed by a rope behind a boat, but can also be towed by cable systems and winches, and be pulled by other motorized vehicles like personal watercraft, cars, trucks, and all-terrain vehicles. The gear and wakeboard boat used are often personalized to each rider's liking. X Games
The X Games are an annual extreme sports event organized, produced and broadcast by ESPN. Coverage is also shown on ESPN's sister network, ABC. The inaugural X Games were held during the summer of 1995 in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island, United States. Participants compete to win bronze, silver, and gold medals, as well as prize money. ESPY Award
An ESPY Award (short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) is an accolade currently presented by the American broadcast television network ABC, and previously ESPN (as of the 2017 ESPY Awards the latter still airs them in the form of replays), to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony. The first ESPYs were awarded in 1993. Because of the ceremony's rescheduling prior to the 2002 iteration thereof, awards presented in 2002 were for achievement and performances during the seventeen-plus previous months. Gravity Games
The Gravity Games was a multi-sport competition originating in Providence, Rhode Island that was broken down into Winter and Summer adaptations. The competition featured a variety of extreme sports such as aggressive inline skating, skateboarding, freestyle motocross, BMX freestyle and snowboarding. The Gravity Games were jointly owned through a strategic partnership between Primedia, Octagon and NBC Sports. The summer Gravity Games were last held in Perth in Australia in December 2006. The Masters Water Ski Tournament is an annual water ski competition that has taken place since 1959.
