Dakin Building
The Dakin Building is an architectural award-winning class A office building on the San Francisco Bay in Brisbane, California. Serving as a corporate headquarters building for several companies of national prominence, it was built from the profits of the Garfield character whose licensed products of the R. Dakin & Company division of Applause Toys soared in sales in the late 1980s. Located on Sierra Point, it became a landmark in the San Francisco Bay Area for its distinctive design and was nicknamed the Luke Skywalker building for its dramatic posture overlooking the bay, in contrast to a neighboring office building with a dark, ominous appearance that was nicknamed the Darth Vader building. Ownership and history The Dakin Building was constructed in 1986 under commission of the R. Dakin & Co., one of the largest manufacturers of plush products (mainly teddy bears) in the United States at that time. Dakin was in a large upswing of sales and profits in the late 1980s fueled ...

Astatine
Astatine is a chemical element; it has Symbol (chemistry), symbol At and atomic number 85. It is the abundance of elements in Earth's crust, rarest naturally occurring element in the Earth's crust, occurring only as the Decay chain, decay product of various heavier elements. All of astatine's isotopes are short-lived; the most stable is astatine-210, with a half-life of 8.1 hours. Consequently, a solid sample of the element has never been seen, because any macroscopic specimen would be immediately vaporized by the heat of its radioactivity. The bulk properties of astatine are not known with certainty. Many of them have been estimated from its position on the periodic table as a heavier analog of fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine, the four stable halogens. However, astatine also falls roughly along the dividing line between metals and nonmetals, and some metallic behavior has also been observed and predicted for it. Astatine is likely to have a dark or lustrous appearanc ...

Dakini
A ḍākinī (; ; ; ; alternatively 荼枳尼, ; 荼吉尼, ; or 吒枳尼, ; Japanese: 荼枳尼 / 吒枳尼 / 荼吉尼, ''dakini'') is a type of goddess in Hinduism and Buddhism. The concept of the ḍākinī somewhat differs depending on the context and the tradition. For example, in earlier Hindu texts and East Asian esoteric Buddhism, the term denotes a race of demonesses who ate the flesh and/or vital essence of humans. In Hindu Tantric literature, Ḍākinī is the name of a goddess often associated with one of the six chakras or the seven fundamental elements ('' dhātu'') of the human body. In Nepalese and Tibetan Buddhism, meanwhile, 'ḍākinī' (also wisdom ḍākinī) can refer to both what can be best described as fierce-looking female embodiments of enlightened energy, and to human women with a certain amount of spiritual development, both of whom can help Tantric initiates in attaining enlightenment. In Japan, the ḍākinīs – held in the East Asian Bud ...

Dakin's Solution
Dakin's solution is a dilute solution of sodium hypochlorite (0.4% to 0.5%) and other stabilizing ingredients, traditionally used as an antiseptic, e.g. to cleanse wounds in order to prevent infection.Jeffrey M. Levine (2013): "Dakin’s Solution: Past, Present, and Future". ''Advances in Skin & Wound Care: The Journal for Prevention and Healing'', volume 26, issue 9, pp. 410–414. The preparation was for a time called also Carrel–Dakin solution or Carrel–Dakin fluid. Use Carrel and Dakin used a variety of apparatuses to infuse the solution continuously over the wounds. In modern typical usage, the solution is applied to the wound once daily for lightly to moderately exudative wounds, and twice daily for heavily exudative wounds or highly contaminated wounds.Century Pharmaceuticals, Inc.:Dakin's solution FAQ. Accessed 2018-06-14. The healthy skin surrounding the wound should preferably be protected with a moisture barrier ointment (e.g., petroleum jelly) or skin sealant as ...

Dakin Oxidation
The Dakin oxidation (or Dakin reaction) is an organic chemistry, organic redox, redox reaction in which an ''arene substitution patterns, ortho''- or ''arene substitution patterns, para''-hydroxylated phenyl group, phenyl aldehyde (2-hydroxybenzaldehyde or 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde) or ketone reacts with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in base (chemistry), base to form a benzenediol and a carboxylate. Overall, the carbonyl, carbonyl group is oxidised, whereas the H2O2 is reduced. The Dakin oxidation, which is closely related to the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation, is not to be confused with the Dakin–West reaction, though both are named after Henry Drysdale Dakin. Reaction mechanism The Dakin oxidation starts with (1) nucleophile, nucleophilic addition reaction, addition of a hydroperoxide ion to the carbonyl carbon, forming a (2) Tetrahedral carbonyl addition compound, tetrahedral intermediate. The intermediate collapses, causing [1,2]-aryl migration, hydroxide elimination reaction, elimi ...
