Dainis Liepiņš (politician)
Dainis Liepiņš (13 August 1962 – 27 November 2020) was a Soviet-Latvian cyclist. He won several awards in "junior" categories in the early 1980s. 1979 Juniors Track World Championships
The 1979 UCI Juniors Track World Championships were the fifth annual Junior World Championship for track cycling held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in August 1979. It was the second championship to be held outside Europe, the second to be held in the Americas, and the first to be held in the southern hemisphere. The Championships had five events for men only, Sprint, Points race, Individual pursuit, Team pursuit and 1 kilometre time trial. With two golds and a bronze, Fredy Schmidtke had the most successful single games for a cyclist to date, while future Tour de France legend Greg LeMond won his first major medal for the United States. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear. The position of the third rider is pivotal because final times are measured as the third team member's front wheel crosses the finishing line. 1980 Juniors Track World Championships
The 1980 UCI Juniors Track World Championships were the sixth annual Junior World Championship for track cycling held in Mexico City, Mexico in August 1980. It was the third successive championship to be held in the Americas. The Championships had five events for men only, Sprint, Points race, Individual pursuit, Team pursuit and 1 kilometre time trial. Maic Malchow of East Germany and Dainis Leipinch of the Soviet Union were the most successful cyclists, winning the sprint double and pursuit double respectively. The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey () is a professional road bicycle racing stage race held annually in Turkey since 1963. In 2005 the race became part of the UCI Europe Tour, rated as a 2.2 event, before being upgraded to 2.1 in 2008, and then to 2.HC for the 2010 edition. The race became part of the UCI World Tour in 2017, and was relegated to the newly formed UCI ProSeries in 2020. In 2023, it was again relegated to a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour.
