Aweida
King Aweida (1850–1921) was a King and Head Chief of Nauru. Place in history Aweida was born Aweijeda in Boe. Before Nauru came under European rule, it was governed by a king who made laws that were enforced by local chiefs. When Germany annexed Nauru to German New Guinea, Aweida retained his sovereignty as king and remained the chieftain of the Nauruan people, he may have reigned from about 1888 to 1921 although very little else is known about him. Aweijeda was born to Chief ''Jim'' and his wife, Eidingab of the Emea tribe. His first marriage was to a chieftain's daughter, Eibinua of the Eamwit tribe from Bush village. They had several children. Timothy Detudamo
Timothy Detudamo (died 11 April 1953) was a Nauruan politician and linguist. He served as Head Chief of Nauru from 1930 until his death in 1953. Biography Detudamo was born in Uaboe District. He was a layman of the Protestant Church of Nauru during his youth, and became assistant to the missionary Rev. Phillip Delaporte to be his assistant. In 1917, he was chosen to travel to the United States by Rev Delaporte to translate the Bible into the Nauruan language. To finance the travel, Detudamo needed US$500, which he raised through Nauruan donations. His translation was carried out with the help of Rev Delaporte, a German-American missionary. Detudamo returned to Nauru in 1921. In 1938, he tried to reform the Nauruan language by making it more understandable for Europeans and Americans. However, his reforms were not widely adopted and today the old orthography continues to be more common. Anibare is a district in the island nation Nauru, a part of the Anabar Constituency. It is Nauru's largest district in area, and the smallest in population. Nauruan Civil War
The Nauruan Civil War was fought from 1878 to 1888, between forces loyal to incumbent King Aweida of Nauru and those seeking to depose him in favour of a rival claimant. The war was preceded by the introduction of firearms to the island and its inhabitants, Nauruans, as a whole. For the majority of the war, the loyalists and the rebels found themselves in a stalemate, with one side controlling the northern and the other the southern part of the island. In 1888, the German Empire intervened by restoring Aweida to the throne and confiscating combatants' firearms; by the time they had finished, the German soldiers had confiscated 791 rifles from both belligerents, nearly one gun per every remaining living inhabitant of the island.
