Daily Ittefaq
''The Daily Ittefaq'' (, Bangla pronunciation: ) is a Bengali-language daily newspaper. Founded in 1949 by Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan, it is the oldest and one of the most circulated newspapers in Bangladesh. The newspaper format is broadsheet, and is printed by Ittefaq Group of Publications Limited. Pre-1971 ''Ittefaq'' was initially published weekly. On 15 August 1949, the first issue of Ittefaq was off the press. Bhashani served as the original editor. Later, Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan appointed Manik Miah as the editor. It became a daily on 24 December 1953 under the editorship of Tofazzal Hossain. During the time of United Pakistan, it publicised the negligence and colonial mindset of Pakistani leaders to East Pakistan. As a result, the government acted against its editors and journalists. United Front (East Pakistan)
The United Front was a coalition of political parties in East Bengal that contested and won East Bengali legislative election, 1954, Pakistan's first provincial general election to the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. The coalition consisted of the Awami Muslim League (Pakistan), Awami Muslim League, the Krishak Praja Party, the Ganatantri Dal (Democratic Party), and Nizam-e-Islam. Operation Searchlight
Operation Searchlight was a military operation carried out by the Pakistan Army in an effort to curb the Bengali nationalist movement in former East Pakistan in March 1971. Pakistan retrospectively justified the operation on the basis of anti-Bihari violence carried out en masse by the Bengalis earlier that month. Ordered by the central government in West Pakistan, the original plans envisioned taking control of all of East Pakistan's major cities on 26 March, and then eliminating all Bengali opposition, whether political or military, within the following month. Anwar Hossain Manju (born 9 February 1944) is a Bangladeshi politician who is a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing Pirojpur-2 constituency which consists of Kawkhali, Bhandaria and Zianagar upazilas until January 2024. Mainul Hosein
Mainul Hosein (31 January 1940 – 9 December 2023) was a Bangladeshi lawyer and the publisher of the daily newspaper ''The New Nation''. He was chairman of the editorial board of ''The Daily Ittefaq'', whose building was shelled and completely demolished on 25 March 1971 by the Pakistan Army. He served as the law, information and land adviser to the immediate past interim Government of Bangladesh during January 2007 – January 2008.
