Daceyville
Daceyville (formerly Dacey Garden Suburb) is a suburb in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Daceyville is 7 km south of the Sydney central business district and is now part of Bayside Council (formerly the City of Botany Bay). Daceyville is a quiet, leafy residential suburb, surrounded by the suburbs of Pagewood and Kingsford. The northern area of Pagewood was designed as part of the original Dacey Garden Suburb plan, as an extension of Daceyville. Many of the street layouts and park layouts in Pagewood remain unchanged from the original Dacey Garden Suburb plan. Daceyville features Australia's first cul-de-sac street on Colonel Braund Crescent. Cook Avenue and Banks Avenue in Daceyville are some of the most unusual residential avenues in the surrounding area, with trees lining both the sides and (very unusually) the medians of the roads, in a similar style to that of Anzac Parade. Pagewood, New South Wales
Pagewood is a suburb in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 8 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district. It is part of the Bayside Council. Pagewood has a mixture of residential and industrial areas. History Pagewood was originally known as "South Daceyville", before being renamed to "Pagewood" in 1929, to honour the late Alderman Fred Page, the Mayor of Botany Council in 1928. The name "Kingsford" was also considered for Pagewood, but it was rejected and later used as the new name for South Kensington. Development of Pagewood began in 1919 with an estate called Monash Gardens. Astrolabe Park
Astrolabe Park is a public park in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Astrolabe Park is located south-east of Sydney CBD in the heritage suburb of Daceyville, and the park is also part of the heritage listed Botany Water Reserves. Features Astrolabe Park is a public park with a half basketball court, walking track, and public toilets. The entire park is also an off-leash area for dogs. In the south-west corner of Astrolabe Park there is a viewing area of the Botany Dams, with a plaque illustrating the aquifer system which runs underground from Centennial Park to Botany Bay. Kingsford is a suburb in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Kingsford is located 6 kilometres south-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Randwick. John Dacey
John Rowland Dacey (1 June 1854 – 11 April 1912) was an Irish-born Australian politician. He moved to Victoria, Australia, with his mother after his father died. Eventually orphaned, Dacey moved to Sydney with his wife and began working as a coachmaker. He began his involvement in politics with an election to local council then moved to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 24 June 1895 to his death on 11 April 1912, serving as Treasurer in his final two years. Throughout his parliamentary career, Dacey campaigned for a garden suburb which would provide government-owned, low-cost housing to the working class. After his death, the garden suburb of Daceyville was built in Sydney and named in honour of him. The garden city movement was a 20th century urban planning movement promoting satellite communities surrounding the central city and separated with Green belt, greenbelts. These Garden Cities would contain proportionate areas of residences, industry, and agriculture. Ebenezer Howard first posited the idea in 1898 as a way to capture the primary benefits of the countryside and the city while avoiding the disadvantages presented by both.
