Daana Chintamani Attimabbe Award
The Daana Chintamani Attimabbe Award (or Attimabbe Prashasti) is a literary award dedicated for woman writers in the Indian state of Karnataka. The award was established in 1995 by the government of Karnataka. It is the highest literary honour for woman writers conferred by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka State, and recognises works written in the Kannada language (one of the 22 official languages of India). The award is named after Attimabbe, a renowned woman of ancient Karnataka, lived in 950 AD who was parental figure to many Kannada poets including Ranna, Ponna and others. The award comprises a cash prize of , a plaque, shawl and garland. The award has been given to women writers for their lifetime contribution to the Kannada literature and is presented by the Chief Minister. Kamala Hampana
Kamala Hampana (28 October 1935 – 22 June 2024) was an Indian writer who wrote in the Kannada language. Born in Devanahalli in Karnataka, she worked as a scholar and professor of ancient works and undertook studies on different genres of Kannada literature, as well as topics involving Jainism. Background Kamala Hampana was born on 28 October 1935, in Devanahalli, Bangalore, Karnataka to C. Rangadhamanayak and Lakshmamma couple. Kamala's elementary schooling started in Challakere, Karnataka and continued in different villages. In 1953, as a high-school student she completed her SSLC at Tumkur. She continued her college studies in Mysore. During 1955-1958, from University of Mysore she obtained a B.A degree and an M.A degree in the Kannada language (1958). Sudha Murty (; born 19 August 1950) is an Indian educator, author, and philanthropist. She is the Founder-Chairperson of the non-profit charitable organization Infosys Foundation. She is married to the co-founder of Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murthy. Vijaya Dabbe
Vijaya Dabbe (1 June 1951 – 23 February 2018) was an Indian writer, feminist, scholar and critic in Kannada language. Often credited as the first feminist writer in modern Kannada language, Dabbe was one of the prominent figures in feminist movement in Karnataka. Personal life Vijaya was born on 1 June 1951 in ''Dabbe'' village of Belur taluk, to Krishnamurthy and Seethalakshmi. Sara Aboobacker (30 June 1936 – 10 January 2023) was an Indian Kannada writer of novels and short stories, and a translator. Early life and education Sara was born in Kasaragod, Kerala on 30 June 1936, to Pudiyapuri Ahmad and Zainabi Ahmad. She had four brothers. She was one of the first girls in her community of Muslim families in Kasaragod to be educated, graduating from a local Kannada school. She was married after school, and went on to have four sons. Janaki Srinivasa Murthy (born 12 February 1945), popularly known by her penname Vaidehi, is an Indian feminist writer and well-known writer of modern Kannada language fiction. Vaidehi is one of the most successful women writers in the language and a recipient of prestigious national and state-level literary awards.
