DTSB
The Deutscher Turn- und Sportbund (DTSB; ''German Gymnastics and Sports Federation'') was a mass organization of the German Democratic Republic from 1957 until shortly after German reunification. Membership in the organization included nearly four million people, which accounted for almost 20% of the population of the GDR. History Founded in 1957, the DTSB was the last major mass organization to be created by the East German government, and was the central agency responsible for mass sport. The federation consisted of individual sports associations within the country, ranging from sailing to chess. While it worked in conjunction with the Gesellschaft für Sport und Technik, the DTSB focused more on adult activities, whereas the GST focused on youth activities. Free German Youth
The Free German Youth (; FDJ) is a youth movement in Germany. Formerly, it was the official youth wing of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. The organization was meant for young adults, both male and female, between the ages of 14 and 25 and comprised about 75% of the young adult population of former East Germany. In 1981–1982, this meant 2.3 million members. After joining the Thälmann Pioneers, which was for school children between ages 6 to 13, East German youths would usually join the FDJ. The FDJ was intended to be the "reliable assistant and fighting reserve of the Worker's Party", while Socialist Unity Party of Germany was a member of the National Front and had representatives in the People's Chamber. The Deutscher Fußball-Verband der DDR (DFV), was from 1958 the football association of the (East) East Germany, German Democratic Republic, fielding the East Germany national football team until 1990 before rejoining its counterpart, the German Football Association (DFB), which had been founded in 1900. Deutscher Fecht-Verband
The Deutscher Fecht-Verband (DFV) was the organ of the larger Deutscher Turn- und Sportbund responsible for governing the sport of fencing in East Germany. One of the smaller sports associations in the nation, in 1988 the organization had 6,584 registered athletes and 673 trainers. After German reunification in late 1990 the DFV was absorbed by the German Fencing Federation (DFB).
