DJ Woody (born 1977) is a prolific DJ and turntablist born in Burnley, Lancashire UK. Career He started DJing in 1992 but made his name through the DJ competition circuit when, in 2001, he was the first European DJ to win the ITF ( International Turntablist Federation) World championship title in San Francisco. A year later he won the Vestax World title. He is known for his innovative and musical approach to turntablism and is responsible for the invention of various scratches and techniques including his famous signature "Woodpecker Scratch". He helped Vestax, the turntable and mixer manufacturer, in the design of its Controller One turntable, the first ever turntable to play full musical scales. Turntablism
Turntablism is the art of manipulating sounds and creating new music, sound effects, mixes and other creative sounds and beats, typically by using two or more Phonograph, turntables and a cross fader-equipped DJ mixer. The mixer is plugged into a PA system (for live events) or broadcasting equipment (if the DJ is performing on radio, TV or Internet radio) so that a wider audience can hear the turntablist's music. Turntablists typically manipulate records on a turntable by moving the record with their hand to cue the stylus to exact points on a record, and by touching or moving the platter or record to stop, slow down, speed up or, spin the record backwards, or moving the turntable platter back and forth (the popular rhythmic "scratching" effect which is a key part of hip hop music), all while using a DJ mixer's cross-fader control and the mixer's gain and equalization controls to adjust the sound and level of each turntable. Okayplayer is an online hip-hop and alternative music website and community, described by ''Rolling Stone'' as a "tastemaker" and "an antidote to dull promotional Web sites used by most artists". ''The Slammer'' (also known as ''The Slammer Returns'' for its final two series) is a talent show for children that was broadcast on CBBC from 22 September 2006 until 26 July 2014. Set in a fictional prison called HMP The Slammer, this programme follows a variety show format where "prisoners" who have been arrested for "showbiz related crimes" compete, by performing to an audience, who decide which act should be released. The Happy Mondays
Happy Mondays are an English rock band formed in Salford in 1980. The original line-up consisted of brothers Shaun Ryder (vocals) and Paul Ryder (bass), Gaz Whelan (drums), Paul Davis (keyboard), and Mark Day (guitar). Mark "Bez" Berry later joined the band onstage as a dancer and maracas player. Rowetta began working with the band as guest second vocalist in 1990. They were originally signed to Tony Wilson's Factory Records label.
