DDR-Oberliga Handball
The Handball-Oberliga der DDR was the top handball division in East Germany. It existed from 1964 to 1991 with the 1990-1991 season being the last one before the German re-unification. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The sport is usually played indoors, but outdoor variants exist in the forms of field handball, Czech handball (which were more common in the past) and beach handball. The SC Magdeburg is a professional handball club from Magdeburg, Germany. The team plays in the highest German league, the Handball-Bundesliga and regularly in highest international competitions. SC Dynamo Berlin
The Sports Club Dynamo Berlin was an East German sports club that existed from 1954 to 1991. It was the largest sports club of SV Dynamo, the sports association of the security agencies. The club was reformed after German reunification and succeeded by sports club SC Berlin. Sporting spectrum The sports club offered the following sports in the 1980s: team handball, athletics, gymnastics, cycling, speed skating, racewalking, figure skating, ice hockey, fencing, boxing, and volleyball. HC Empor Rostock
HC Empor Rostock is a team handball club from Rostock, Germany. Empor Rostock was one of the most successful team handball clubs of the GDR, winning both the GDR Championship and GDR Pokal on seven occasions and the European Club Championship and EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 1982. History The team was founded in 1946 as a part of broader sportsclub SC Empor Rostock, one year after the second World War. ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt
Frankfurter Handball Club is a German women's handball from Frankfurt (Oder). History During the communist era Frankfurter HC was the handball section of military sports club ASK Vorwärts, installed in Frankfurt since 1971. Vorwärts was one of the most successful East German team in the 1980s, winning six national championships between 1982 and 1990. It was also successful in international competitions, winning two EHF Cups in 1985 and 1990. Following the reunification of Germany the ASK Vorwärts society was disbanded in 1991, and Frankfurt became an independent club and joined the Handball-Bundesliga as BFV Frankfurt. In 1994 the club merged with local team and took its current name. While the club's status has decreased following the reunification Frankfurter has still been fairly successful since, winning the 1997 EHF City Cup, the 2003 National Cup and the 2004 championship. The Women's Handball DDR-Oberliga was the highest category in the championship for women's team handball, handball in East Germany. Founded in 1951, 41 editions took place before the competition was disestablished in 1991 following the reunification of Germany. HC Leipzig, SC Leipzig was the championship's most successful with fifteen championships between 1953 and 1991, followed by Fortschritt Weissenfels and ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt, Vorwärts Frankfurt with six, TSC Berlin with four and Empor Rostock with three.
