DC Road Runners Club
The DC Road Runners Club is a non-profit regional group to promote running in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. It is a member of the Road Runners Club of America. DCRRC was founded in 1961 by Hugh Jascourt. DCRRC has 1,500 members principally from Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland. It conducts over 50 races each year, including the Washington Birthday Marathon and the National Capital 20 Miler. Members accumulate points in a summer Bunion Derby Series and a winter Snowball Series. Road Runners Club Of America
Founded in 1958, the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is the oldest and largest distance running organization in the United States with over 1,500 running club and event members representing 200,000 individual runners active in their running communities. Road Runners Clubs may also include members who may have diverse abilities, from using asthma inhalers to brain tumors, heart disease, and even Paralympian wheelchair racers. Washington Birthday Marathon
Washington's Birthday Marathon is an annual marathon in the United States that has been held nearly every February since 1962. It is held each year on the Sunday of Washington's Birthday Weekend and is conducted by the DC Road Runners Club. The race was originally held in Arlington, Virginia, but after a few years, it was moved to Beltsville, Maryland. Finally, it was relocated to Greenbelt, Maryland. Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run
The Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is an annual 10-mile (16 km) road race in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1973 originally as a precursor training run for elite runners planning to compete in the Boston Marathon, the race has evolved over the years into a local race for runners of all abilities. Nevertheless, it still attracts international running stars such as Catherine Ndereba, Bill Rodgers, John Korir, and Olga Romanova. The race is scheduled for the first Sunday of each April, meant to coincide with the bloom of the cherry blossoms given as a gift in 1912 from the mayor of Tokyo. DCRRC Track Championships
The DCRRC Track Championships is an annual all-comers track meet in the United States that has been held since the early 1990s. It is hosted by the DC Road Runners Club. Although it has offered multiple distances, it historically emphasizes the mile race. From 2012 the meet has offered prize money in an effort to attract more runners. Over the years the meet has been held at Wakefield High School, Washington-Lee High School, and T.C. Williams High School. While the distances offered in the championships has changed slightly over time, the meet consistently hosts a mile race on the track. Greenbelt, Maryland
Greenbelt is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, and a suburb of Washington, D.C. At the 2020 census, the population was 24,921. Greenbelt is the first and the largest of the three experimental and controversial New Deal Greenbelt Towns, the others being Greenhills, Ohio, and Greendale, Wisconsin. Greenbelt was planned and built by the Federal government. USMC War Memorial
The United States Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) is a national memorial located in Arlington County, Virginia. The memorial was dedicated in 1954 to all Marines who have given their lives in defense of the United States since 1775. It is located in Arlington Ridge Park within the George Washington Memorial Parkway, near the Ord-Weitzel Gate to Arlington National Cemetery and the Netherlands Carillon.
