D.C. (Died Pretty Song)
"D.C." is a song by Australian alternative rock band Died Pretty. It was released in September 1991 as the second single from their fourth studio album '' Doughboy Hollow''. The song peaked at number 124 on the ARIA Charts. It was nominated for Best Video at the 1992 Aria Awards. Lyrical content Talking to Richard Kingsmill of Triple J in 1996, Peno explained, "The lyric is about the passing of someone, and coming to terms with it. Lyrically I wrote it about a dear friend that passed away while we were on tour in Europe. His name was David Cox—hence the "D.C." title. He was this wonderful person who came into my life, influenced me and left it again before his time." Peno agreed with Kingsmill's assessment that the song was "a bit of an anthem", stating that he "love the song" because "it's straight from the heart". Died Pretty
Died Pretty, sometimes The Died Pretty, were an Australian alternative rock band founded by mainstays Ron Peno (lead singer) and Brett Myers (lead guitarist and backing vocalist) in Sydney in 1983. Their music started from a base of early electric Bob Dylan with psychedelic influences, including The Velvet Underground and Television. They were managed by John Needham, who is the owner of Citadel Records, their main label. Mark Jeremy Seymour (born 26 July 1956) is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician. He was the frontman and songwriter of rock band Hunters & Collectors from 1981 until 1998. Seymour has carved a solo career, releasing his debut solo album in 1997 and winning an ARIA Award in 2001 for '' One Eyed Man'' in the category of Best Adult Contemporary Album. Amanda Gabrielle Brown (born 17 November 1965) is an Australian composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Triple J
Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It aims to appeal to young listeners of alternative music, and plays far more Australian content than commercial networks. The station was set up under the Gough Whitlam government, wanting to extend the appeal of the ABC to young Australians. Initially broadcasting as 2JJ or Double Jay from 19 January 1975, it stood apart from commercial stations with its lack of private advertising and its fringe music programming. ''Doughboy Hollow'' is the fourth album by Australian rock band Died Pretty. The album, recorded with English producer Hugh Jones, was released in 1991. Richard Kingsmill
Richard Kingsmill is an Australian radio announcer and music journalist. He worked for ABC radio station triple j from 1988 until his redundancy in December 2023, and was the station's longest-serving presenter. From 2017 he was group music director of triple j, triple j Unearthed, Double J, ABC Country, and ABC Local Radio. Early life and education Richard Kingsmill studied mass communications at Macquarie University in the early 1980s.
