Wernigerode () is a town in the Harz (district), district of Harz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Until 2007, it was the capital of the Wernigerode (district), district of Wernigerode. Its population was 32,181 in 2020. Wernigerode is located southwest of Halberstadt, and is picturesquely situated on the Holtemme river, on the northern slopes of the Harz Mountains. Wernigerode is located on the German Timber-Frame Road. Wernigerode Castle
Wernigerode Castle () is a schloss located in the Harz mountains above the town of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The present-day building, finished in the late 19th century, is similar in style to Neuschwanstein Castle, Schloss Neuschwanstein, though its foundations are much older and have been reconstructed several times. Wernigerode Castle was first built at the beginning of the 12th century (1110-1120) as a Romanesque architecture medieval fortress for German emperors to have a secure spot to stop during their hunting trips to the Harz. Few of these medieval walls and foundation remain today. At the end of the 15th century the castle was enlarged in a Gothic architecture style, with large arched windows. During the 16th century, it was rebuilt as a Renaissance fortress. A spiral staircase tower still remains intact today. Harz Mountains
The Harz (), also called the Harz Mountains, is a Mittelgebirge, highland area in northern Germany. Brocken
The Brocken, also sometimes referred to as the Blocksberg, is a mountain near Schierke in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, between the rivers Weser River, Weser and Elbe. The highest peak in the Harz mountain range, and in Northern Germany, it is subalpine, yet has a microclimate resembling that of mountains nearly higher. The elevation above its tree line tends to have snowcover from September to May, and mists and fogs shroud it up to 300 days a year. The mean annual temperature is only . It is the easternmost mountain in northern Germany; the next prominent elevation directly to its east would be in the Ural Mountains in Russia. Nöschenrode () is a Stadtteil of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Geographical position Nöschenrode is located at the foot of the Harz Mountains in the ''Mühlental''. Hasserode
Hasserode has been a quarter in the town of Wernigerode in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt since 1907. Location Hasserode lies at the foot of the Harz Mountains in the valley of the River Holtemme, whose upper reaches include the water cascade of the Steinerne Renne. A state road (''Landstraße'') runs through the quarter to Drei Annen Hohne and Schierke in the direction of the Harz's highest mountain, the Brocken. Schierke
Schierke is a village and a former municipality in the Harz district, in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Since 1 July 2009, it is part of the town Wernigerode. Situated within the Harz mountain range in the valley of the river Bode, at the rim of the Harz National Park, it is mainly a tourist resort, especially for hiking and all kinds of winter sports. Wernigerode was a district (''Kreis'') in the west of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The neighboring districts were (from north clockwise) Halberstadt, Quedlinburg, the district Nordhausen in Thuringia and the district Goslar in Lower Saxony. Zillierbach
The Zillierbach (until 1558 called the Zilgerbach) is a stream in the Harz mountains of central Germany ( Harz district) in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is about long. The stream rises on the western side of the ''Hohneklippen'' crags and runs initially southwards, then swings northeast at Drei Annen Hohne. South of Drei Annen Hohne it picks up the waters of the Wormsgraben, its main tributary. The Zillierbach supplies the Zillierbach Dam near Elbingerode. In front of the settlement of Voigtstieg it is joined by another two smaller brooks. In the Middle Ages the Zillierbach powered the mills between Voigtstieg and Wernigerode. Minsleben
Minsleben () is a ''Ortsteil'' (district) of Wernigerode since April 1, 1993. Geographical position Minsleben is on the northern edge of the Harz mountains in the plain open to the north. The Holtemme flows past the village. The Minsleben stop on the Heudeber-Danstedt–Vienenburg railway line has not been served since October 2006. Connecting roads lead from Minsleben to Wernigerode, Reddeber, Heudeber and Silstedt. The ''Hundemühle'' is nearby. History The place can look back on over 1000 years of history. Benzingerode has been a village incorporated into the borough of Wernigerode since 1 April 1993. in the district of Landkreis Harz, Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Location Benzingerode lies in the North Harz about 7 kilometres east of Wernigerode, on the old Bundesstraße 6, B 6 federal road that runs through the middle of the village and branches off to Silstedt at the eastern exit.
