Benzingerode
Benzingerode has been a village incorporated into the borough of Wernigerode since 1 April 1993. in the district of Landkreis Harz, Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Location Benzingerode lies in the North Harz about 7 kilometres east of Wernigerode, on the old Bundesstraße 6, B 6 federal road that runs through the middle of the village and branches off to Silstedt at the eastern exit. Southwest of Benzingerode liest the Stapenberg. A low ridge, the Ziegenberge runs eastwards towards Heimburg on which is the site of an old hillfort, the Struvenburg. Struvenburg
The Struvenburg was a medieval castle immediately east of Benzingerode, a village in the borough of Wernigerode in the district of Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Today only a few earthworks remain. Very little is known about this castle. The name may be derived from the adjective ' = scrubby or rough. Location The site of the castle is on an isolated east-west limestone ridge, the Struvenberg, that descends towards the west into the basin where the village is situated, and is continued eastwards by the Ziegenberg. The castle is best reached from the western (village) side. Layout Whilst the steep 60° slope on the southern side of the ridge facing the Harz Mountains provided a good natural defence, the other sides were protected by straight ramparts with ditches in front of them. Wernigerode
Wernigerode () is a town in the Harz (district), district of Harz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Until 2007, it was the capital of the Wernigerode (district), district of Wernigerode. Its population was 32,181 in 2020. Wernigerode is located southwest of Halberstadt, and is picturesquely situated on the Holtemme river, on the northern slopes of the Harz Mountains. Wernigerode is located on the German Timber-Frame Road. Stapenberg
The Stapenberg is a hill spur in the Harz Mountains of central Germany in Harz district in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. Location The Stapenberg lies on the northern edge of the Harz within the Harz/Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park. It rises southwest of the village of Benzingerode in the borough of Wernigerode. To the north the country descends into the northern Harz Foreland. History In 1470 the hill came into the ownership of a local knight, Hans Knauth. Views and hiking The Stapenberg is known because of its views of the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz, and over the northern Harz Foreland between Wernigerode and Heimburg, which are currently visible thanks to logging on the summit. Ziegenberge
The Ziegenberg is a low ridge between the villages of Benzingerode and Heimburg on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains in central Germany. The ridge is a designated nature reserve (Germany), nature reserve. The reserve has an area of 88.4 hectares and has a variety of habitats including mesophytic grassland (''Halbtrockenrasen''), bushes, pine woods and wet meadows. Its highest points are the eponymous Ziegenberg (315.7 metres above NN) and the Struvenberg (291 m) Geology As part of the northern uplift zone of the Harz, the Ziegenberg was formed during the Hercynian orogeny, Hercynian mountain building phase. As it was uplifted, the horizontal strata of the surrounding area, mainly consisting of muschelkalk, were tilted. The northern part of the Ziegenberg is characterized by silt and marl. Heimburg
Heimburg is a village and a former municipality in the district of Harz, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Blankenburg am Harz. On a hilltop above the village are the ruins of the old Heimburg Castle which, today, is a good viewing point. Heimburg also lies at the foot of the Ziegenberge, a chain of small hills that have been designated as a nature reserve and run as far as Benzingerode. ''Blick'' (View) is a Swiss German-language daily newspaper and online news website covering current affairs, entertainment, sports and lifestyle. Based in Zurich, it is the largest newspaper in Switzerland with a print circulation of around 285,000. The newspaper has been printed continuously since its inception in 1959. History and profile ''Blick'' was established in 1959. The newspaper was the first Swiss tabloid publication. The format of ''Blick'' was broadsheet until 2005 when it was switched to tabloid. The new format induced controversies: protests began and many boycotted the scandalous newspaper. It was nevertheless a huge financial success.
