Vetlanda () is a locality and the seat of Vetlanda Municipality, Jönköping County, Sweden with 13,050 inhabitants in 2010. History Vetlanda was still nothing more than a village for several centuries. With the 1840s population boom in Småland, and the industrial revolution winning ground in Sweden, the industry expanded and people settled in the village. With the railways crossing Vetlanda in the late 19th century the population further blossomed, and Vetlanda got the title of a city on New Year's Day 1920, at which time its population amounted to 3,015. The coat of arms was selected as an ear of wheat, a derivation of the arms for the old jurisdiction Östra Härad ( sv), wherein ''Vitala'' was rumoured to have been the centre, that depicted three ears of wheat. Vetlanda Motorstadion
Vetlanda Motorstadion or the Hasses Motorstadion (for sponsorship purposes) is a motorcycle speedway track located in the north eastern outskirts of Vetlanda. The track is on the Valhallavägen road and largely surrounded by forest. The stadium hosts the Njudungarna speedway team (previously known as Elit Vetlanda Speedway) that compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. The speedway team have been champions of Sweden 11 times racing under the name of Vetlanda. History Work began on the track on 12 October 1946, when the area was rented by Vetlanda Motorsällskap from farmer Henric Wictorin. It opened on 24 June 1949. The venue hosted the World Championship round known as the Intercontinental final in 1982, 1985 and 1988. The 1982 event set a record stadium attendance of 11,517. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. Njudungarna or Vetlanda Speedway are a motorcycle speedway team based in Vetlanda, Sweden, who compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. They race at the Vetlanda Motorstadion and are ten times champions of Sweden. History 1946 to 1965 The club was formed in 1946, and arranged their first meeting three years later. The team raced as Njudungarna and first participated in the league system during the 1961 Swedish speedway season although a team called Vetlanda had raced in 1950. 1967 to 1985 They raced in the highest division of Swedish speedway for the first time in 1967, following their promotion after they won the second division in 1966. In their maiden season in the top league they finished runner-up to Getingarna, a feat they repeated again the next two seasons in 1969 and 1970. The Bandy World Championship is a competition for the men's teams of bandy-playing nations. The tournament is administrated by the Federation of International Bandy. It is distinct from the Bandy World Cup, a club competition, and from the Women's Bandy World Championship. The European Cup was an annual bandy club competition between teams from Europe. The first edition of the tournament was held in 1974. The most recent competition was in 2009, but it has not been formally discontinued. Clubs qualified for the cup by becoming champions in their own national championship. This meant that only four teams took part, the national championship teams from Finland, Norway, the Soviet Union – eventually replaced by Russia – and Sweden. Swedish bandy champions () is a title held by the winners of the final of the highest Sweden, Swedish bandy league played each year, Elitserien (bandy), Elitserien.
