U2 Curtain Call In Glasgow 11-7-2015
U, or u, is the twenty-first letter and the fifth vowel letter of the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet and the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is ''u'' (pronounced ), plural ''ues''. Name In English, the name of the letter is the "long U" sound, pronounced . In most other languages, its name matches the letter's pronunciation in open syllables. History U derives from the Semitic waw, as does F, and later, Y, W, and V. Its oldest ancestor goes back to Egyptian hieroglyphs, and is probably from a hieroglyph of a mace or fowl, representing the sound or the sound . This was borrowed to Phoenician, where it represented the sound , and seldom the vowel . In Greek, two letters were adapted from the Phoenician waw. The Fly (U2 Song)
"The Fly" is a song by Irish rock music, rock band U2. It is the seventh track from their 1991 album, ''Achtung Baby'', and it was released as the album's first single (music), single on 21 October 1991 by Island Records. "The Fly" introduced a more abrasive-sounding U2, as the song featured danceable Hip hop music, hip-hop beats, industrial music, industrial textures, distorted vocals, and an elaborate guitar solo. Lead vocalist Bono described the song as "the sound of four men chopping down ''The Joshua Tree''", due to its departure from the sound that had traditionally characterised the band in the 1980s. Bono described the song's subject as that of a phone call from someone in Hell who enjoys being there and telling the person on the other end of the line what he has learned.Flanagan (1996), p. 57 The lyrics are written as a series of aphorisms that Bono collected during the album's recording. The song and its video were also a showcase for "The Fly", a persona that Bono adop ...

William Walker (composer)
William Walker (May 6, 1809 – September 24, 1875) was an American Baptist song leader, shape note "singing school, singing master", and compiler of four shape note tunebooks, most notable of which are the influential ''Southern Harmony, The Southern Harmony'' and ''The Christian Harmony'', which has been in continuous use (republished 2010). Life Walker was born in Martin's Mills (near Cross Keys, South Carolina, Cross Keys), South Carolina, and grew up near Spartanburg, South Carolina, Spartanburg. From an early age he became deeply involved in music and became a song leader in the Baptist church. To distinguish him from other William Walkers in Spartanburg, he was nicknamed Singing Billy. He married Amy Golightly in 1832 and they lived in Spartanburg. Her sister Thurza had married Benjamin Franklin White in 1825; while is clear that there was strife between the two brothers-in-law, there is no evidence for the claim, sometimes heard among Sacred Harp singers, that B.F. Amazing Grace
"Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn written in 1772 and published in 1779 by English Anglican clergyman and poet John Newton (1725–1807). It is possibly the most sung and most recorded hymn in the world, and especially popular in the United States, where it is used for both religious and secular purposes. Newton wrote the words from personal experience; he grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life's path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by others' reactions to what they took as his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed into service with the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy. While this moment marked his spiritual conversion, he continued slave trading until 1754 or 1755, when he ended his seafaring alt ...

Original Soundtracks 1
''Original Soundtracks 1'' is a studio album recorded by the Irish rock band U2 and English producer Brian Eno as a side project under the pseudonym Passengers. Released on 6 November 1995, the album is a collection of songs written for mostly imaginary films (the exceptions being songs for ''Ghost in the Shell'', ''Miss Sarajevo'', and '' Beyond the Clouds''). Owing to Eno's involvement as a full songwriting partner and the album's experimental nature, the moniker "Passengers" was chosen to distinguish it from U2's conventional albums. It was commercially unnoticed by the band's standards and received generally mixed reviews. Guest musicians on the record included Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti (on "Miss Sarajevo") and producer Howie B, who would co-produce U2's following album, '' Pop'' (1997). Background According to the producer Brian Eno, near the end of the recording sessions for U2's 1993 album ''Zooropa'', the band hit "a stone wall" and were getting obsessive ...

Beautiful Day
"Beautiful Day" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the first track on their tenth studio album, '' All That You Can't Leave Behind'' (2000), and was released as the album's lead single on 9 October 2000. The song was a commercial success, helping launch the album to multi-platinum status, and is one of U2's biggest hits to date. Like many tracks from ''All That You Can't Leave Behind'', "Beautiful Day" harkens back to the group's past sound. The tone of the Edge's guitar was a subject of debate among the band members, as they disagreed on whether he should use a sound similar to that from their early career in the 1980s. The band's lead vocalist Bono explained that the upbeat track is about losing everything but still finding joy in what one has. The song received positive reviews, and it became the band's 14th number-one single on the Irish Singles Chart. Outside Ireland, "Beautiful Day" topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Por ...

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
''How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'' is the eleventh studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was released on 22 November 2004 in the United Kingdom by Island Records and a day later in the United States by Interscope Records. It was produced by Steve Lillywhite, with additional production from Chris Thomas, Jacknife Lee, Nellee Hooper, Flood, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, and Carl Glanville. Much like their previous album '' All That You Can't Leave Behind'' (2000), the record exhibits a more mainstream rock sound after the band experimented with alternative rock and dance music in the 1990s. Looking for a more hard-hitting sound than that of their previous album, U2 began recording ''How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'' in February 2003 with Thomas. After nine months of work, the band had an album's worth of material ready for release, but they were not satisfied with the results. The group subsequently enlisted Lillywhite to take over as producer in Dublin in January 2004. Lillywh ...
